Scaled Accounts Director - Openbank Pay

Openbank Pay leverages the technological resources and expertise of Openbank, the digital-native bank of the Santander Group, which is currently rolling out its international expansion plans. Through a simple and flexible banking model, Openbank offers customers the possibility to manage their finances on the website or app.
Mission and responsibilities:
Openbank Pay is seeking a Long Tail Director to lead the scalable "factory model" managing a broad portfolio of small and mid-sized merchants across Europe.
This role owns the full P&L of the Long Tail segment and is responsible for building an efficient, standardized and scalable operating model that drives profitable growth while minimizing operational complexity.
The main tasks of this role will be the following:
Segment P&L Ownership
- Full accountability for the Long Tail P&L across markets.
- Drive profitable growth, margin optimization and cost efficiency.
- Monitor volumes, conversion, risk metrics and operational cost drivers at segment level.
Scalable Operating Model
- Design and implement a standardized, repeatable and automation-driven merchant management model.
- Prioritize actions based on economic impact and scalability.
- Reduce operational friction through process optimization and tooling.
Merchant Portfolio Management
- Oversee acquisition (direct channels and partnerships), activation and performance optimization of small merchants.
- Drive onboarding efficiency and time-to-live improvements.
- Implement structured performance review frameworks for the segment.
Cross-functional Coordination
- Coordinate with Product, Risk, Legal, Compliance, CDAIO, Operations and Finance.
- Ensure operational readiness and regulatory compliance across markets.
- Align product capabilities with segment needs.
Growth & Diversification
- Reduce dependency on large accounts by scaling diversified merchant base.
- Identify new verticals and geographies suitable for factory-model expansion.
To be successful in the role you must have:
