Iberia
Iberia is the flag carrier airline of Spain and one of the largest airlines in Europe, operating a vast network of domestic, European, and intercontinental routes. Headquartered in Madrid, the airline is a key member of the International Airlines Group (IAG), together with British Airways, Vueling, Aer Lingus, and LEVEL. Iberia's operations are supported by a robust maintenance division, Iberia Mantenimiento (IBERIA MRO), which provides engineering, repair, and technical services for aircraft, engines, and components to its own fleet and many third-party airlines.
With its global headquarters and primary hub at Madrid-Barajas Airport (SOMUCH), Iberia's Spain presence is heavily concentrated in and around Madrid, where most operational, technical, engineering, and corporate roles are based. The airline is central to Spain's aviation sector and offers a professional environment with significant growth and upskilling opportunities, including structured training programs. For international professionals, Iberia provides a unique opportunity to work in one of Europe's busiest hubs, side-by-side with multicultural multilingual teams, and to potentially access airline-specific licenses and certifications (especially for technical and engineering roles regulated by EASA Part-66).
Company History
Iberia was founded in 1927 and has grown over nearly a century to become Spain's leading airline and one of the oldest carriers in the world. The company was one of the founding members of the Oneworld alliance in 1999 and merged with British Airways in 2011 to form International Airlines Group (IAG), but it has retained its operational independence as a brand. In recent years, Iberia has modernized its fleet with new-generation aircraft and expanded its long-haul services to Latin America, its main competitive market.
For International Professionals
- Nearly all of Iberia's corporate, technical, and engineering roles are based in Madrid, so relocating professionals will need to seek Spanish work authorization or hold EU citizenship.
- Iberia heavily supports EASA licenses: Many maintenance and technical roles require an EASA Part-66 license (B1, B2, or B1/B2), the airframe and standard for aircraft maintenance in Europe.
- The airline runs structured internal training and development programs, including apprenticeships for aircraft maintenance technicians (TMA) and other specialised career tracks.
- Given its role as Spain's flag carrier, Iberia offers employee flight benefits that can be valuable for internationally mobile staff who want to travel throughout the US and Latin America.
- The workplace is bilingual (Spanish/English), so Spanish fluency is a significant advantage even though English is often the working language for technical teams and international exchanges.
