At BBVA Research, the Spain and Portugal area is responsible for analyzing the situation and outlook for the Spanish and Portuguese economies. One of its objectives is to produce a detailed macroeconomic forecast, assess shocks or changes in economic policy on these variables, and validate risk scenarios.

The unit conducts a diagnosis of the sectoral evolution of the Spanish economy, with special emphasis on the behavior of consumption, the real estate sector, the state of public finances, and the development of the external sector. It also carries out studies using large databases to evaluate the behavior of workers, households, and firms.

What we are looking for

  • Master's or PhD in Economics or a related field with a solid background in economic theory and quantitative methods. A PhD in quantitative economics, econometrics, statistics, or applied macroeconomics will be positively valued.

  • Solid professional experience in developing or applying economic, econometric, or statistical models, in environments where economic, financial, or risk analysis predominates, such as international organizations, central banks, research centers, research departments, or universities.

  • A demonstrated track record of applied research, model development, publications, working papers, or high-quality quantitative projects will be valued.

  • Experience in producing external and/or internal outreach publications and in giving public presentations, both to specialized audiences and in general settings.

  • Proficiency in quantitative programming and analysis tools, especially R, Matlab, Stata, and Python. Additional experience with Gauss, Rats, version control systems, collaborative environments, and good analytical development practices will be valued.

  • Experience in forecasting and nowcasting techniques, time series models, structural or semi-structural models, causal inference methods, machine learning, and the use of high-frequency or unconventional data sources will be valued.

  • Familiarity with the use of Artificial Intelligence, generative tools, or automation to improve the efficiency of analytical work, code generation, information processing, documentation, or result review.

  • C1 level of English (oral and written) or higher.
