Job description

We are seeking a Laboratory Animal Veterinarian Technician to join our Quality Operations team at a pharmaceutical company dedicated to the development and manufacture of veterinary medicines under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

The selected candidate will perform duties associated with Function F (Designated Veterinarian) and Function C (Procedure Performance) in accordance with Royal Decree 53/2013 and Order ECC/566/2015, also participating in analytical activities within the animal laboratory.

Main responsibilities

  • Advise scientific and technical staff on animal welfare matters.
  • Oversee the health status of animals housed in the facility.
  • Collaborate with the Animal Welfare Body (AWB).
  • Advise on health surveillance programs, analgesia, anesthesia, and euthanasia.
  • Promote the application of the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement).
  • Participate in audits and inspections related to animal welfare.
  • Draft and review procedures related to animal handling and care.
  • Perform authorized experimental procedures.
  • Administer substances and treatments.
  • Perform clinical monitoring of laboratory animals.
  • Collect biological samples and record experimental data.
  • Apply anesthesia, analgesia, and euthanasia procedures in accordance with established protocols.
  • Process and analyze biological samples from animal studies.
  • Participate in necropsies and tissue sampling.
  • Manage GMP documentation and analytical records.
  • Investigate deviations and collaborate on the implementation of corrective actions (CAPA).
  • Draft and review standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Participate in validation, qualification, and continuous improvement activities in the laboratory.

Experience

  • Minimum 6 months of experience in an animal facility or animal experimentation center.
  • Experience in handling laboratory animals and sample collection.
  • Previous experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or CRO industry will be valued.

Knowledge

  • Animal welfare and regulations applicable to animals used for scientific purposes.
  • Laboratory animal techniques.
  • GMP quality systems.
  • Document management and regulatory compliance.
  • Biosecurity and health control.
