Schneider Digital is the digital department of Schneider Electric, leading the digital transformation in the company by giving support globally to our internal teams and our clients. Schneider Digital consists of 6 Digital Hubs worldwide which are strategically located to ensure a 24/7 support across the company (France, China, India, USA, Mexico and Spain). Our Digital Hub in Barcelona is formed by +450 employees working in strategic projects and different roles such as Data, Cybersecurity, ERP, Cloud, Infrastructures, IT Project Management or Digital Marketing.

The Expert, Core Commerce Platform Owner is a specialised application-engineering expert responsible for the technical integrity, implementation and continuous improvement of Schneider Electric's shared Adobe Commerce Core Platform. The platform provides common commerce capabilities consumed by multiple headless applications and market implementations, including NAM Marketplaces, APAC Marketplaces and UCE Model 2.

The role designs and implements sophisticated platform capabilities, resolves complex technical issues and ensures that Core customisations are robust, reusable, secure and appropriately exposed through GraphQL, REST APIs and Adobe Developer App Builder services. It provides hands-on technical stewardship while supporting the transition towards an App Builder-first, composable and SaaS-ready architecture.

This role provides hands-on technical stewardship and implementation leadership. Final accountability for enterprise platform strategy, investment and budget decisions, business-product prioritisation, supplier commercial management and significant cross-platform architecture approvals remains with the relevant platform, product, architecture or organisational leadership.

What will you do?

Key responsibilities

Advanced application engineering

• Design, develop and enhance sophisticated capabilities within Adobe Commerce Core.
• Translate functional and non-functional requirements into robust technical designs, application components and integrations.
• Resolve complex defects, performance issues and integration problems through hands-on investigation, debugging and root-cause analysis.
• Ensure solutions meet agreed standards for security, scalability, maintainability, reliability and operational support.

Core platform technical stewardship

• Act as the senior application-engineering reference for the shared Core Commerce Platform and its consuming applications.
• Guide whether requirements belong in common Core, a reusable shared capability, an application-specific extension or an external App Builder service.
• Identify duplication, unnecessary coupling and conflicting implementations, and recommend practical simplification and reuse.
• Assess platform changes for stability, backward compatibility and impact on NAM Marketplaces, APAC Marketplaces, UCE Model 2 and other consumers.

Customisation and modernisation

• Review proposed Adobe Commerce customisations and recommend the appropriate implementation pattern.
• Apply an App Builder-first assessment to new custom functionality and challenge unnecessary growth of in-process PHP customisations.
• Support classification of existing modules as keep, consolidate, move, replace or retire, and contribute to the technical-debt backlog.
• Design and implement reusable App Builder actions, packages and services, supporting incremental SaaS readiness without disrupting current delivery.

GraphQL, API and headless enablement

• Design and implement GraphQL queries, mutations and REST APIs required by headless commerce applications.
• Apply standards for schema design, security, error handling, performance, observability, versioning, backward compatibility and deprecation.
• Investigate inefficient queries and integration patterns, working with application teams to improve reuse and performance.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation for APIs, schemas, dependencies and supported consumption patterns.

Engineering quality and technical governance

• Perform thorough code and technical-design reviews for complex or platform-sensitive changes.
• Promote automated testing, coding standards, reusable patterns and appropriate engineering-quality controls.
• Participate in architecture reviews, translate architectural direction into implementable engineering work and record material technical decisions.
• Provide evidence-based recommendations and seek architecture or platform-leadership guidance when decisions exceed delegated scope.

Reliability, lifecycle and operations

• Improve the performance, resilience and observability of Core services, GraphQL operations and integrations.
• Support Adobe Commerce upgrades, patches and dependency updates, including compatibility assessments for custom modules and consuming applications.
• Partner with DevSecOps, infrastructure, cybersecurity, quality and support teams to resolve complex platform issues.
• Implement sustainable corrective actions for recurring incidents and maintain the documentation required to operate supported capabilities.

Technical guidance and knowledge sharing

• Provide technical guidance to engineers and delivery partners, helping them resolve complex design and implementation issues.
• Promote consistent engineering practices and reusable platform patterns across internal and external teams.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation covering designs, modules, APIs, App Builder services, dependencies, decisions and troubleshooting procedures.
• Lead through technical expertise and influence, without direct people-management responsibility.

What are the key skills we are looking for?

Required experience and capabilities

• Strong experience in enterprise application engineering, including advanced hands-on Adobe Commerce or Magento development.
• Demonstrated capability designing and maintaining complex custom modules, GraphQL schemas, REST APIs and integrations.
• Experience with headless or composable commerce architectures and shared platforms consumed by multiple applications or markets.
• Strong understanding of application security, performance, scalability, maintainability, testing and reliability.
• Proven ability to conduct code reviews, produce detailed technical designs and maintain high-quality application documentation.
• Ability to work independently, set priorities, make sound technical decisions with minimal supervision and navigate ambiguity using experience and established standards.
• Ability to guide other professionals and communicate complex technical choices, risks and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred experience

• Adobe Developer App Builder, Adobe I/O Runtime, API Mesh or equivalent serverless and API-composition technologies.
• Modernisation of highly customised commerce platforms towards composable or SaaS architectures.
• Multi-market, multi-store, multilingual or marketplace commerce implementations.
• CI/CD, automated testing, observability, cloud deployment and event-driven integration patterns.
• Adobe Commerce certification or equivalent demonstrable technical expertise.
