Job description

At AECOM we are looking to bring on board a Junior Engineer who wants to develop their career in the design of bridges and/or structures, to join our dynamic and growing team in Enterprise Capabilities, Europe (Madrid).

Our team has a solid track record in the design of bridges and structures in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Latin America, and the Middle East. With us, you will have the opportunity to participate in iconic infrastructure projects in a diverse and multicultural environment.

You will participate in all phases of project development, from conceptual and feasibility studies to preliminary and detailed designs, covering a wide variety of bridge and structure typologies. You will be part of large multidisciplinary teams working for public and private clients, including large-scale turnkey (Design and Build) projects.

Main responsibilities:

  • Calculation and modeling: you will perform structural element calculations applying load combinations, limit states, and basic verifications; additionally, you will model and analyze structures using specialized software, ensuring consistency between models and results.

  • Deliverables and quality: you will assist in preparing calculation reports, quantity take-offs, and sketches for drawing production, ensuring clarity and order; you will perform self-checks and participate in quality reviews (peer reviews) to enhance technical quality and reduce rework.

  • Design and coordination: you will collaborate on conceptual studies, preliminary designs, and detailed designs.

  • Standards and constructability: you will apply international standards (AASHTO, AREMA, BS, Australian codes); you will learn to incorporate the design for constructability approach, considering construction phases, access, and site constraints.

  • Collaboration and digital efficiency: you will participate in technical meetings to validate assumptions and understand constraints; you will contribute to digital efficiency through templates, parameterization, and task automation (spreadsheets and basic scripts).

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering, preferably from a recognized university.

  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written) and Spanish (spoken and written).

  • For good performance in this role, it is essential that you are a proactive person with a curiosity for learning and problem-solving.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and good organizational abilities to work under tight deadlines.

  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to different leadership styles and work effectively in a team.

  • Experience with structural analysis software will be considered a plus.
