About the role

At Sener Aeroespacial y Defensa, we want to add a Senior Software Engineer for electronic equipment to our team.

We are an engineering company pioneering the design of satellite technology and equipment for space exploration. What you will do

You will join the actuator control electronics development group for Space and Defense to lead new product projects in the pointing mechanisms and actuation and control systems lines.

Sener Aeroespacial y Defensa has been developing aerospace systems for the space, defense, science, and diagnostics markets for more than 50 years.

The Electronic Equipment and Mechanisms Systems division, based in Bilbao, Barcelona, and Madrid, has been a leading supplier of electromechanical systems for the world's major space agencies (NASA, ESA, JAXA, and Roscosmos) since 1995.

You will be part of the multidisciplinary team (hardware, software, firmware, and mechanics) that develops the equipment used to test the control electronics and mechanisms of antenna pointing systems, robotic couplings and anchors, telescope focusing and scanning systems, among others.

What you'll do

Your main duties will include:

  • Learning about the types of test equipment we develop and their applications.

  • Developing new embedded software.

  • Designing new software features based on system requirements.

  • Maintaining existing software, adding new functionalities and fixing bugs. 

  • Developing and managing source code under Git version control. 

  • Communicating and coordinating with team members developing the firmware, electronics, or mechanisms. 

  • Commissioning and validating the application software of test equipment for certification or production campaigns.

  • Defining software validation procedures. 

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Electronics specialty.

  • Demonstrable experience of at least 5 years in a similar position.

  • Programming skills in C or C++.

  • Advanced English level.

Nice to have

Knowledge of the following will be valued:

  • Sensors and motors

  • Serial communication buses: RS-232/485/422, USB, SPI, I2C, Modbus, Visa, CAN bus or similar

  • Process automation

  • Unit testing, integration, and continuous development

  • Code version control tools and bug tracking

  • Handling and use of laboratory measuring instruments

  • General knowledge of digital and analog electronics

  • Knowledge of standards (ECSS, MISRA, IPC, MIL, etc.)

Knowledge of other tools will also be valued:

  • IDEs for Microchip microcontrollers: MPLABX and Microchip Studio.

  • Doxygen, UML, LDRA, GITLAB, Python, DOORS...

  • Task management tools such as JIRA, Redmine, or ECLIPSE.
