What we're looking for

The ideal candidate has a background in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field, with a strong logical and analytical mindset and up 2 years of experience in software development.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree or background in Physics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field. Candidates with a computer science background will also be considered.
  • 2 years of experience in software development. Internships, research projects, or relevant scientific software work will also be considered.
  • Good knowledge of Python and either C# or C++.
  • Strong logical and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to understand mathematical and scientific concepts and apply them to software.
  • Basic knowledge of the Linux command line, since part of the job is done in high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
  • Ability to work independently on well-defined tasks and to ask for input when needed.
  • Ability and willingness to use AI coding tools as part of the development process.
  • Ability to learn and work with an existing codebase.
  • Experience with Git and software testing.
  • Interest in working with scientific modeling and simulation methods. The modeling methods used in the project are generally not highly complex numerical methods such as the finite element method (FEM), the level set method, or similar advanced techniques.

Nice to have

  • Basic experience using supercomputers or HPC environments.
  • Basic knowledge of Scrum or Agile.
  • Experience with scientific computing, numerical modeling, simulations, or data analysis.
  • Knowledge of wildfire or fire behavior modeling.

The role

We are looking for a Software Developer with initial professional experience to work on numerical wildfire behavior modeling. You will work on well-defined features and tasks with a growing degree of autonomy, collaborating closely with the development and scientific teams.

What you'll do

RESPONSABILITIES

  • Develop and maintain software for wildfire and fire behavior modeling.
  • Implement and test algorithms based on scientific and mathematical models.
  • Work with scientific and numerical data and analyze modeling results.
  • Develop scripts and tools to automate simulations, testing, data processing, and analysis.
  • Carry out testing, debugging, validation, and performance analysis for the tasks you work on.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks, from understanding the requirements to delivering tested code.
  • Participate in technical discussions and code reviews.
