What will be your mission? 🎯

In the Chief Digital Officer (CDO) area, we are in charge of driving innovation, digital transformation, and technology creation at Telefónica. We are responsible for the development of digital products, services, and channels supported by the company's data, video, and connectivity platforms.

Your activity will revolve around mobile data core and platforms with a strong orientation toward innovation to lead the evolution toward advanced network architectures (6G) and integrating capabilities such as non-terrestrial networks (NTN), edge computing, ISAC, and AI-based automation. The person will actively participate in subsidized R&D projects (e.g., Horizon Europe type programs), standards (e.g., 3GPP), and will contribute to both technical definition and experimental validation.

How will you contribute your skills to the purpose of the role? 💼

  • Design and evolution of the data core (5GC) with a focus on future 6G architectures.
  • Integration of advanced capabilities: Network Slicing, Edge-Cloud Continuum, and AI/ML-based automation.
  • Design of solutions for hybrid networks (TN-NTN).
  • Leadership of European projects (proposals, execution, reporting, demos).
  • Definition of innovative use cases (e.g., digital twins, XR, ISAC, critical communications).
  • Development and validation in laboratory environments and testbeds.
  • Collaboration with industrial partners, universities, and research centers.
  • Monitoring of standards (3GPP, IETF, NGMN, GSMA, etc.) and contribution to working groups.
  • Preparation of technical deliverables, whitepapers, and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Definition of solid knowledge transfer proposals and technical proposals to the operations and product units of the OBs.
  • Management of diverse and multidisciplinary groups of people.

What capabilities are we looking for in you? 🔎

  • Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or similar.
  • 15-20 years in mobile network core (EPC/5GC/6G), with at least 10 in the TEF group, with exposure to innovation environments.
  • High knowledge of core network functions: UPF, SMF, AMF, PCF, UDM, IMS, etc.; protocols: GTP, SBA, etc.
  • High knowledge of platforms and API exposure: IMS, NEF, Camara, OpenGW, edge-continuum, operation platform, etc.
  • High level of cloud continuum concepts and multi-level federation.
  • Extensive experience in 3GPP, IETF, GSMA, etc. standards.
  • Knowledge of AI and its application to mobile networks: e.g., Agentic core, Net4IA and IA4Net.
  • Advanced knowledge in e2e network slicing.
  • Experience in cloud-native architectures (Kubernetes, microservices).
  • Experience participating in European or subsidized projects.
  • Ability to translate research into prototypes or technical solutions.
  • High level of English (working in international environments), and Spanish (work environment).
