BBVA is a global company with more than 160 years of history that operates in more than 25 countries where we serve more than 80 million customers. We are more than 121,000 professionals working in multidisciplinary teams with profiles as diverse as financiers, legal experts, data scientists, developers, engineers and designers.

Learn more about the area:

As set out in the BBVA Group Code of Conduct, the Compliance area is a global function tasked with promoting and supervising, with independence and objectivity, that BBVA acts with integrity, particularly in areas such as conduct in the securities markets, the prevention of money laundering and corruption, and others that may represent a reputational risk for BBVA.

Within the Compliance CIB Spain unit, the Trade Surveillance team is dedicated to detecting and investigating Suspicious Transactions involving the use of Inside Information and Market Manipulation for reporting to the Supervisor, as part of the team responsible for establishing mechanisms, procedures and controls that ensure ethical conduct in the securities markets.

We are looking for someone to join the Trade Surveillance team as an Analyst, within the Compliance CIB Spain team.

What you'll do

You will help us manage our market abuse detection tools. In these tools we analyze the alerts they generate, carry out an investigation process to decide whether to dismiss them or escalate them to the suspicious transactions committee for eventual reporting to the supervisor.

The position requires numerical and analytical thinking, as well as knowledge of and interest in financial markets across different asset types (equities, fixed income, FX, derivatives).

In addition, the team works with Visual Basic Excel (VBA) tools that streamline the team's daily tasks. For this reason, programming knowledge is valued for maintaining or resolving operational issues.

This is a process of continuous improvement, so you will collaborate on projects that improve and make more efficient the processes for detecting suspicious activity.

At the start of your experience with us, your daily work will cover the following tasks:

  • Management of the tools for detecting market manipulation and insider trading.

  • Analysis of alerts and investigation of them for possible cases of market abuse.

  • Continuous calibration of alert scenarios in the suspicious transaction detection tools.

  • Creation of files for possible Suspicious Transactions involving Market Abuse for presentation to the Internal Committee on Suspicious Transactions.

  • Participation in continuous improvement projects for the Trade Surveillance function.

  • Execution of controls over the Surveillance process to ensure its proper functioning regarding potential market integrity risks.

  • Support in the preparation of the Area's internal regulations, procedures and manuals for the Group's action in matters of Market Abuse.

  • Support in the preparation of the Market Abuse Risk Assessment (MARA).

  • Support in the design of new scenarios or models for market abuse surveillance.

  • Support in the preparation of documentation for training on Market Abuse and its dissemination.

Nice to have

  • Regulatory Framework: Basic/intermediate knowledge of the Market Abuse Regulation (MAR), the MiFID II Directive and market integrity regulations.

  • Other tools such as Google Workspace.

Education & certifications

  • Required: University degree / Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration and Management, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or related quantitative disciplines.

  • Valued: Specialized certifications or postgraduate studies in Financial Markets, Regulatory Compliance (e.g. CESCOM, CAMS) or Financial Regulation (MAR/MiFID II).

Languages

  • Spanish: Native or C2.

  • English: Advanced level / C1 (essential for analyzing documentation, international regulations and coordinating with global CIB teams).

2. Years of Experience

  • 1 to 3 years of prior experience in CIB Compliance, Trade Surveillance, Middle/Back Office, Financial Audit areas or in trading desks/markets.

3. Technical and Regulatory Knowledge

  • Financial Markets and Instruments: Solid understanding of how financial markets and asset classes work (Equities, Fixed Income, FX and Derivatives).

  • Knowledge of databases (SQL) or quantitative analysis/programming languages (Python) applied to transaction surveillance.

  • Operational Tools: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
