Company History
Founded in 1944, Endesa (Empresa Nacional de Electricidad, S.A.) was initially created as a state-owned company to expand electricity supply in Spain. The company was privatized in the 1990s and grew into one of Spain's largest utilities. In 2007, the Italian energy group Enel acquired a controlling stake in Endesa, making it a key part of Enel's global network. Today, Endesa leads Spain's energy transition, focusing on renewable generation, grid modernization, and electrification.
