Requirements
What we're looking for
4+ years building and shipping production mobile apps, with at least one app you owned end to end from architecture to the store.
Strong React Native and TypeScript. Our stack is TypeScript top to bottom and our apps are no exception; you should be fluent, not merely familiar.
Real native experience alongside it (Swift and/or Kotlin). Tap to Pay on iPhone can only be reached from native iOS code, so there is genuine native work here - you should be comfortable writing and debugging native modules, not only JavaScript.
Experience mentoring or leading engineers, formally or informally: onboarding juniors, running code reviews, and raising the level of people around you.
You still write code and want to. This is not a role where you stop shipping.
Solid fundamentals - GraphQL API integration, state management, offline and poor-connectivity behaviour, testing, CI/CD and the full release cycle on both the App Store and Google Play.
Professional English and Spanish (C1+).
Nice to have
Experience with payments, fintech or any regulated environment: card acceptance, PCI, tokenization, SoftPOS or NFC.
AWS serverless background (Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge) - useful for working shoulder to shoulder with our team.
Previous experience working with university interns or in an academic partnership (UPC, UMA or similar).
Contributions to open source, technical writing or community involvement.
Comfortable with AI-first workflows (Claude, Cursor) for development, code review and documentation.

What you'll get
Competitive salary.
Hybrid work: two days a week from our Málaga or Barcelona office, three days remote.
AI tools on us (Claude, Cursor, etc.).
The role
Staff Manager - Apps
Our apps are how merchants actually touch MONEI every day. MONEI Pay turns a phone into a payment terminal - Tap to Pay on iPhone, Bizum, QR, payment links - and it's used by a café owner in Málaga between coffees, not by a developer at a desk. If it takes more than a few seconds, it has failed.
We're looking for a Staff Manager - Apps to own that experience end to end: the architecture, the roadmap, and the people who build it.
The "manager" half is real. You'll lead a small team of 3-4 UPC interns: pick them, onboard them, review their code, and turn a first job into a proper engineering apprenticeship. For most of them this will be the first real codebase they've touched, and how good they become is largely down to you.
The "staff" half is just as real. You'll still be writing code, making the architectural calls, and shipping to production yourself.
What you'll do
Own MONEI's mobile apps end to end - architecture, code quality, release process, store submissions, crash and performance monitoring. You decide how they're built and you're accountable for how they behave in a merchant's hand.
Lead and grow a team of 3-4 UPC interns. Run the selection, onboard them, set the goals, review every pull request, and give the kind of feedback that makes someone a better engineer. Protect their learning time from the urgent.
Break work down so juniors can win. Turn roadmap items into tasks that are genuinely shippable by someone three months into their first job, without lowering the bar on what reaches production.
Ship the roadmap with Product. Tap to Pay on iPhone, Bizum, payment links, QR, refunds, reporting - you'll help decide what gets built, not just build it.
Work side by side with the rest of the tech team. Our apps sit on an AWS-native serverless backend processing real money - Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge, Step Functions, with AppSync GraphQL as the API layer. You'll work closely with our backend and frontend engineers on schema design, SDKs, tokenization, error handling and the edge cases that matter when a transaction fails mid-sale. We're a small team: you'll know everyone who touches the code.
Set the engineering standards for mobile - testing, CI/CD, code review, release cadence, documentation.
Keep an eye on the real numbers. Crash-free rate, app start time, time to first transaction, store ratings.
