About the company
Open-Xchange (OX) is a German software company that develops open-source collaboration software, including OX App Suite, a full-featured email, calendar, and file-sharing platform, as well as the OX Drive and OX Guard security products. Founded in 2008 in Nuremberg, OX serves over 320 million users worldwide through its network of telco and hosting partners, making it one of Europe's most widely deployed email and collaboration platforms.
For International Professionals
- Open-Xchange has an official development hub in Spain (in Huesca, Aragón) with a significant R&D team, offering a chance to work in a smaller city while keeping ties to a stable German tech employer.
- The company is fully open-source oriented—most of your work as a developer will be published on GitHub—and it adopts a decentralized, remote-friendly culture (SRE and dev teams often work with great flexibility).
- OX uses a people-first approach with English as the working language across its international teams; a German or Spanish background is not required to fit in, though relocation support exists for the Huesca and Barcelona offices or fully remote posts.
- Spain operations have been a consistent driver of innovation for the company; many of OX's actual devs are in Huesca, not in the HQ, which means international hires there join a real core team and can substantially influence OX's product roadmap.

Company History
Open-Xchange was founded in 2008 as a spin-off from SUSE, building on the open-source OX (formerly Open-Xchange Server) project. The company has grown by acquiring other open-source projects like OX Drive (formerly SkyDive) and collaborating with partners such as Dovecot and OpenBSD. Today, it remains a leading independent provider of open-source email and communication platforms, driven by a community of developers and a global partner ecosystem.
