At RDT, we are building a new strategic capability to transform technology, know-how, and IP into products, industrial pilots, and future business lines.

To strengthen our product, industrialization, and scaling hub in Barcelona, we are looking for a Software Engineer for Signal Processing and Optical Sensing. Their mission will be to develop the first software layer that converts optical and electronic signals from sensors, interrogators, and acquisition systems into interpretable, traceable, and actionable physical variables.

The challenge is not just programming: it is building the layer that turns a validated technology from a hard-to-interpret signal into a reusable product component, integrable into industrial pilots, client applications, analytics, diagnostics, and future scalable solutions.

You will work at the intersection of optical sensing, data acquisition, C/C++, signal processing, third-party APIs/SDKs, data quality, and industrial product development. This is a key role within TRL 6–9 phases, as it reduces the risk of relying on poorly repeatable measurement chains or opaque vendor interrogators, and helps turn technology into sellable, monetizable solutions.

What you'll do

· Design and implement in C/C++ the software layer that converts optical/electronic signals into interpretable physical variables.

· Develop algorithms for filtering, normalization, demodulation, feature extraction, event detection, and noise reduction.

· Define traceability across raw data, algorithms, measurement units, uncertainty, metadata, and data quality.

· Integrate optical interrogators, DAQs, acquisition electronics, SDKs, drivers, APIs, data streams, and third-party systems.

· Work with real-time, near real-time, or batch signals depending on the industrial use case and acquisition system.

· Build reusable modules for diagnostics, dashboards, analytics, alarms, client applications, or industrial systems.

· Prepare clean, structured, and traceable datasets for downstream data layers, applied AI, or industrial data exploitation.

· Convert prototypes or scripts into documented, versioned, testable, and maintainable software components.

· Participate in industrial pilots, client validations, incident analysis, and the evolution toward repeatable product releases.

What we are looking for

· Degree in Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, Electronics, Industrial Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or similar.

· Minimum 4 years of experience in technical software, instrumentation, measurement systems, data acquisition, or industrial sensing.

· Strong command of C/C++ to build robust, efficient, and maintainable software in hardware-near environments.

· Practical knowledge of signal processing: filtering, FFT, correlation, demodulation, feature extraction, and noise reduction.

· Ability to interpret physical signals and connect them to measurable variables, units, calibration, uncertainty, and repeatability.

· Experience integrating APIs, SDKs, drivers, protocols, data streams, or third-party devices.

· Hands-on use of Python, MATLAB, or equivalent tools for prototyping, exploratory analysis, and dataset preparation.

· Autonomy, engineering rigor, technical judgment, and the ability to work in uncertain environments, structuring open problems and iterating toward solutions.

Will be valued

· Experience in optical sensing, fiber optics, FBG, DFOS, DAS, DTS, DTSS, Rayleigh, Brillouin, Raman, Faraday, or optical interrogators.

· Experience with instrumentation, high-speed acquisition, synchronization, timestamping, streaming, or edge computing.
