“A postdoctoral position is available” — per the ad.
A postdoctoral position is available within the Radiochemistry and Nuclear Medicine Group and the Molecular and Functional Biomarkers Group at CIC biomaGUNE. The successful candidate will develop novel synthetic methodologies in organofluorine chemistry, with particular emphasis on reactions relevant to radiochemistry and molecular imaging.
CIC biomaGUNE invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to join a collaborative project involving the Radiochemistry and Nuclear Medicine Group and the Molecular and Functional Biomarkers Group. The project aims to develop novel reactions in organofluorine chemistry and investigate their potential applications in preparing fluorinated compounds and radioligands.
The principal responsibilities will include:
Designing, developing, and optimising novel organofluorine reactions.
Synthesising, purifying, and characterising fluorinated compounds.
Exploring the translation of selected reactions to fluorine-18 radiochemistry, where applicable.
Maintaining accurate experimental records and analysing scientific data.
Preparing scientific reports, manuscripts, and presentations.
Collaborating with researchers across the participating groups.
Contributing to the supervision and training of junior researchers, where appropriate.
CIC biomaGUNE (Center for Cooperative Research in Biomaterials) is a non-profit research organization and member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA), created to promote scientific research and technological innovation in the Basque Country under the BioBasque policy. Its activity is conducted by an average of 11 international research groups working at the interface between chemistry, physics, and biology, with an emphasis on the design of nanostructures and biomaterials and their applications in biomedicine. The center's strategy is structured around three research priorities: Biofunctional Nanomaterials, Synthetic Bioengineering, and Molecular and Functional Imaging, with applications spanning diagnostic, therapeutic, theranostic, and multimodal imaging.
The center is located in the Science and Technology Park of Gipuzkoa in Donostia-San Sebastián, Basque Country, Spain. It has earned national and international recognition as a scientific leader in biomaterials, including the 2018 'María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence' accreditation — the highest recognition of scientific excellence in Spain from the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) — and the 'HR Excellence in Research' seal. It runs structured career pathways for researchers at all levels, including a PhD Program, Postdoctoral Program (including the BREATH Postdoctoral Programme), Master Program, and Undergraduate and Vocational Training Programs, making it a relevant destination for international scientists seeking research careers in Spain.
The researcher will work in a multidisciplinary environment at the interface of synthetic chemistry, radiochemistry, and molecular imaging and will collaborate closely with scientists from complementary research areas. The position provides access to CIC biomaGUNE's advanced research infrastructure and offers opportunities to develop expertise in fluorine chemistry and its biomedical applications.
