The role

Devoted Studios is a globally remote game development company specializing in Co-development, Porting, and End-to-End Art Production for the global gaming industry.

Our team includes world-class talents who bring deep expertise in external development, pipeline optimization, and creative problem-solving. Whether it's porting games to new systems, enhancing gameplay features, or crafting stunning visuals, Devoted Studios operates as a trusted, flexible extension of our partners' internal teams.

We are proud to be the development partner of choice for industry leaders such as:

  • 2K
  • Xbox
  • Meta
  • Obsidian Entertainment
  • Turtle Rock Studios
  • Gearbox Software

At Devoted Studios, we're committed to making outsourcing more efficient, collaborative, and impactful. If you're passionate about co-development, game art, or solving technical challenges on a global scale.

We are looking for a Senior Content Designer to shape the story-driven chapter content that carries players through a live game. This role sits outside core gameplay. You will own the world players journey through between play sessions: the environments they restore and unlock, the characters they meet, the narrative beats that frame their progress, and the special moments that make each milestone feel earned.

You will be the connective tissue between narrative, environment, characters, and animation. Working alongside writers, artists, animators, and producers, you will turn chapter concepts into cohesive, buildable experiences and keep the creative intent intact from first pitch through final polish, all within the guidelines of an established IP and a collaborative partner review process.

Responsibilities
  • Conceive and pitch chapter concepts, defining the setting, story arc, characters, and the sequence of environments and moments players unlock as they progress.
  • Design the environments players move through, including layout, points of interest, and how each space visibly transforms as players advance.
  • Shape narrative beats, character arcs, and dialogue moments in partnership with writers, so that story and progression reinforce each other.
  • Design signature moments such as reveals, transformations, celebrations, and chapter finales that reward progress and deliver emotional payoff.
  • Serve as the bridge between design, art, and animation, translating creative intent into clear direction that each discipline can execute against.
  • Define character staging, animation needs, and camera framing for key beats, balancing creative ambition against animation scope and production cost.
  • Own chapter documentation, including one-pagers, beat sheets, environment briefs, asset lists, and moment breakdowns.
  • Guide chapters through phased reviews, from early feasibility and blockout through concept, implementation, and polish.
  • Partner with client stakeholders, internal discipline leads, and production to align on scope, milestones, and quality, presenting work and incorporating feedback with clarity.
  • Maintain consistency of tone, lore, and visual language across chapters, and avoid creating story or content dependencies that constrain future chapters.
  • Review implemented content in build, identifying issues with pacing, readability, and staging, and driving fixes with the team.
  • Identify creative and production risks early and propose practical alternatives that protect quality and schedule.
  • Contribute to content pipelines, templates, and best practices that make chapter production faster and more repeatable.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of game development experience in content, narrative, level, or world design, with at least 2 years in a senior role.
  • At least one shipped commercial title where you owned player-facing story, environment, or content design.
  • A portfolio that shows environments, narrative beats, and player moments you designed and carried through to release.
  • Strong understanding of how story, environment, characters, and animation work together to communicate progression and reward.
  • Strong visual communication skills, with the ability to express ideas through sketches, paintovers, mood boards, storyboards, or blockouts.
  • Working knowledge of art and animation pipelines, with a practical sense of what is costly to build and how to scope accordingly.
  • Strong documentation and presentation skills, with the ability to write clear briefs and pitch ideas confidently to senior stakeholders.
  • Experience working within an established IP, brand guidelines, or licensor approval process.
  • Experience collaborating directly with external partners or clients, with confidence managing feedback, expectations, and shifting priorities.
  • A strong sense of pacing, tone, and player empathy, with an instinct for moments that land emotionally.
  • Based in Europe or the UK, with fluent written and spoken English.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience on mobile, casual, or live-service games with a narrative or meta-progression layer.
  • A background in environment art, level art, or narrative writing alongside design.
  • Experience designing for broad, all-ages audiences.
  • Familiarity with in-game cameras, cinematic staging, or lightweight cutscene tools.
  • Experience with proprietary engines and content tools, or with Unity or Unreal for blockouts and prototyping.
  • Comfort working in co-development environments with embedded teams.
