About the role

Have you studied Industrial Engineering with an electrical specialty and want to steer your first professional steps toward the planning and development of electrical grids?

At Iberdrola Smart Grids we are looking for people with a technical background, analytical skills, and motivation to take part in the evolution of the high-voltage grid, which is key to advancing electrification and the energy transition.

Be part of the energy that moves the future!

What you'll do

What will you do on a day-to-day basis?

You will join Iberdrola Smart Grids at our offices in Valencia, to contribute to the planning of the high-voltage grid.

  • Build demand and generation scenarios for different planning horizons, incorporating growth forecasts, territorial evolution, new loads, and energy trends such as distributed generation, self-consumption, storage, and electrification of demand.

  • Carry out technical grid studies using electrical simulation tools, analyzing grid behavior under different operating and planned grid scenarios.

  • Model electrical grid elements, such as substations, lines, transformers, reactors, capacitor banks, generation, demand, and equivalent elements in grid calculation tools.

  • Run load flows to assess congestion, voltage profiles, losses, and capacity margins of lines and transformers.

  • Identify constraints and reinforcement needs arising from overloads, voltage violations, reactive power balance, demand growth, or integration of new generation.

  • Analyze meshed networks and contingencies, applying supply security criteria, including N-1 analysis of lines, transformers, relevant busbars, and combined contingencies where applicable.

  • Evaluate flow redistributions and bottlenecks after contingencies, proposing mitigation measures such as reinforcements, new interconnections, topological changes, sectionalizing, remote control, or temporary solutions.

  • Estimate available capacity at high-voltage nodes for demand, generation, and storage, considering firm capacity, contingencies, thermal limits, and voltage constraints.

  • Analyze access and connection requests and their impact on the existing and planned grid, including upstream constraints or dependencies on the transmission network.

  • Propose and compare grid development alternatives, such as new lines, uprating, conductor changes, substation expansions, additional transformation, mesh reconfiguration, or automation.

  • Work with data and digital tools, using SQL, Power BI, Python, Excel, or other solutions to analyze information, prepare reports, and improve technical processes.

  • Contribute to methodological and technological improvement of high-voltage grid planning tools, incorporating automation and the responsible use of artificial intelligence where it adds value.

You will learn by taking part in real technical planning studies, combining electrical analysis, modeling, data, regulatory criteria, and a strategic vision of grid development.

What you'll get

What will you find at Iberdrola?

  • The opportunity to join an IBEX 35 company, a leader in the energy sector, with an international presence and more than 40,000 professionals.

  • A project with real impact on the energy transition, electrification, and the improvement of distribution networks.

  • Competitive salary, social benefits, and work-life balance measures.

  • Continuous working day throughout the year and flexible start and end times.

  • Welcome program and initial training to get to know the company.

What profile are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering and a Master's degree with an electrical specialty.

  • Valuable technical knowledge in load flows, transmission and distribution networks, short-circuit concepts, voltage and reactive power regulation, supply quality, and investment planning.

  • Knowledge and proficiency in grid calculation tools, Python programming, advanced Excel, VBA, SQL/Access, data processing, and prompt management in artificial intelligence tools.

  • Previous experience is not essential. Internships, final degree projects, or projects related to electrical grids, data, simulation, or energy will be valued.
