The role

DSP Engineer | Communication hardware | Madrid | Circa €100,000 DoE

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a DSP Engineer to join a cutting-edge Research & Development team working on next-generation communication technologies.

In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, and validation of advanced Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms for communication systems. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contributing to system architecture, modelling, testing, and optimisation of state-of-the-art solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and validate advanced DSP and FEC algorithms for high-speed communication systems.
  • Model communication channels to understand and mitigate signal distortion, noise, and jitter.
  • Collaborate with analogue, mixed-signal, and digital IC design teams to define system architectures and partition functionality between hardware and digital processing implementations.
  • Simulate and optimise algorithms in both floating-point and fixed-point environments, ensuring efficient performance, low power consumption, and suitability for hardware implementation.
  • Support hardware characterisation and performance validation, correlating laboratory measurements with simulation results, refining models, and continuously improving simulation environments.

Experience:

  • Strong background in Information Theory, DSP, or FEC for optical and/or electrical communications.
  • Experience in modelling communication systems.
  • Programming languages such as MATLAB, C/C++, or similar.
  • Familiarity with Unix operating systems, particularly Linux, and version control systems, particularly SVN.
  • Knowledge of intensity-modulation/direct-detect (IM/DD) optical communication systems.

Benefits:

  • Salary €60,000 - €100,000 DoE
  • Holiday allowance.
  • Pension
  • Competitive benefits package.
