About the role

Our maintenance and reliability engineering team is a key part of Amazon's commitment to innovation. This team ensures that the tools and technologies we use evolve and adapt to change at the same pace as Amazon. As a senior maintenance and reliability engineering technician, you will help us stay one step ahead by adopting the latest technologies and identifying new, more efficient ways of working. In this role, you will pay special attention to our processes to help meet the demanding standards we uphold and will implement improvements to keep moving forward.

Key job responsibilities

  • Apply best practices in the safe use of equipment and supervise staff to ensure everyone follows processes correctly.
  • Ensure device performance through visual checks, status inspections, and preventive maintenance tasks, and schedule additional reviews when necessary.
  • Supervise technical staff on shift to support their development and act as the first point of contact for maintenance and reliability engineers.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues to reduce downtime so packages can be processed as quickly as possible.
  • Help find ways to constantly improve systems and standardize processes across the EU network.

A day in the life

On each shift, you will lead a team, ensuring all members have the necessary materials and that everything works perfectly. This involves overseeing processes to ensure compliance with regulations and policies, as well as ensuring the relevant preventive maintenance is carried out to increase equipment uptime.

Based on what you observe during your shifts, you will propose improvements aimed at increasing the efficiency and productivity of our systems and, later, implement those changes across all our EU sites. You will also need to use tools such as Scada to monitor processes to ensure their performance, as well as work closely with your direct supervisor on administrative tasks.

Your workplace will be at one of our operational sites. You will work shifts, which may include some weekends and nights. As you gain experience in this fascinating sector at Amazon, you will be able to progress toward more senior roles.

About the team

Our maintenance and reliability engineering (RME) team ensures our systems run at full capacity. We are characterized by our strong technical aptitude and excellent teamwork skills, led by highly experienced managers. Our work includes maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of equipment across our global network of distribution centers. The team includes a range of management profiles responsible for overseeing the development of fascinating technologies, some of which exist only at Amazon.

Our team handles most of Amazon's technical aspects, performing tasks ranging from installing automated packaging systems to overseeing general site maintenance or repairing key distribution equipment. This includes adapting buildings to current legislation so that all staff are safe and our facilities operate as efficiently as possible. The RME team, as in other Amazon departments, offers numerous opportunities for professional growth.

All our work revolves around reducing downtime at Amazon's crucial operational sites so customers receive their orders on time. We often work in the early morning or late at night to carry out maintenance tasks with minimal disruption, which is why we work night shifts. If we discover there is a better way of doing something, we have the capability and the opportunity to develop and introduce entirely new processes or cutting-edge technology, such as Amazon Robotics and our complex-item sorter.

What we're looking for

  • High school diploma.
  • Relevant previous experience in a technical management position.
  • Relevant experience in both electrical and mechanical disciplines.
  • Relevant experience in automation or with material handling equipment.
  • Advanced level of Spanish, both oral and written, and basic knowledge of English.

Nice to have

  • Desirable requirements are a plus but are not mandatory to apply for the position. If you meet the basic requirements mentioned, we would love to meet you.
  • Experience in environments with multiple contractors and across different locations when interacting with multiple contractors and different locations.
  • You understand PLC-based control systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience using computer systems that enable proactive maintenance planning and reactive task logging.
  • University degree, preferably in a technical, operations, or business administration discipline.
