The role

ARQUIMEA, we are a technology company operating globally and providing innovate solutions and products in highly demanding sectors.

Our areas of activity are Aerospace, Defense & Security, Big Science, Biotechnology and Fintech.

In ARQUIMEA AEROSPACE DEFENCE & SECURITY develops safer and more reliable defense systems through technology, including unmanned aerial systems (UAVs), sensing systems, command and control software, and aiming systems.

Primary Function and Scope

The UAV Embedded Systems Integration Specialist will be a hands-on technical profile responsible for bringing new electronic and embedded systems into operation, integrating them with UAV platforms and rapidly troubleshooting problems in the laboratory, production and flight-test environments.

The role sits between firmware/software development, electronics and system integration. It requires enough programming capability to write or modify firmware, drivers, scripts and test tools, but a significant part of the job is practical bench work: wiring systems, powering devices safely, checking interfaces, configuring equipment, capturing signals and data, debugging unexpected behaviour and making heterogeneous subsystems work together.

This is intentionally not a pure software-development or QA/V&V position. The ideal profile is someone who is comfortable moving continuously between code, Linux, microcontrollers, connectors, oscilloscopes, network traces, sensors and complete UAV systems.

Key Accountabilities

• Bring up, configure, integrate and evaluate new UAV electronics and sensors such as GNSS receivers, IMUs, cameras, radios, autopilots, companion computers, payload electronics and other COTS or internally developed devices.

• Perform hands-on laboratory integration: power and signal wiring, connector and pinout verification, cable preparation, basic soldering/rework, interface adaptation and safe first power-up of new hardware.

• Debug embedded interfaces including UART/RS-232/RS-422, CAN, Ethernet, USB, SPI, I2C, PWM and GPIO, using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, multimeters, serial tools, network captures and other bench equipment.

• Develop or modify embedded firmware in C/C++ and small software utilities or test applications required to communicate with, configure or validate new hardware.

• Develop Python and shell scripts for device configuration, data capture, automated testing, log analysis, flashing and repeatable laboratory or production procedures.

• Integrate cameras and other peripherals on embedded Linux platforms and companion computers, including drivers, device configuration, video/data pipelines and networking.

• Evaluate new components and supplier equipment through structured bench testing, interface verification and performance characterisation before integration into UAV prototypes or production systems.

• Investigate integration and production issues, reproduce failures, isolate root causes across hardware/firmware/software boundaries and implement or coordinate practical fixes.

• Create reusable test tools, fixtures, configuration packages and acceptance procedures to reduce engineering effort during production, maintenance and future integrations.

• Support autopilot, flight-control, communications, navigation and payload teams during system integration, HIL/SIL activities, ground testing and flight testing.

• Support production and workshop teams when complex technical problems require advanced technical troubleshooting.

• Document wiring, configurations, firmware versions, test setups, results, known limitations and integration procedures so that successful prototypes can be reproduced reliably.

Required Education and Skills:

Level - Degree

Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related technical field; or Intermediate or Higher Vocational Training (FP Grado Medio / Grado Superior) in a relevant technical area. Particularly relevant programmes include Electronic Maintenance, Telecommunications and Computer Systems, Automation and Industrial Robotics, Industrial Mechatronics, Electrical and Automated Systems, Telecommunications Installations, Microcomputer Systems and Networks, Electromechanical Maintenance, or comparable technical studies. Equivalent relevant hands-on experience may also be considered.

Additional Training/Qualifications

• Strong hands-on electronics and embedded-systems capability; comfortable working directly with development boards, sensors, connectors, cables and prototype hardware.

• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded development and Python for scripting, test automation and data handling.

• Practical knowledge of microcontrollers and embedded platforms, preferably ARM Cortex-M / STM32 or equivalent.

• Good working knowledge of Linux and embedded Linux environments, command-line tools, device configuration and basic system/network troubleshooting.

• Experience using laboratory tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analysers, multimeters, bench power supplies and debugging/programming probes.

• Solid understanding of common embedded and vehicle interfaces: UART, CAN, Ethernet, USB, SPI, I2C, PWM and GPIO.

• Ability to read schematics, datasheets, interface-control documents and pinout documentation and translate them into a working bench setup.

• Comfortable troubleshooting problems that span hardware, firmware, operating system, drivers, communications and system configuration.

• Knowledge of Git and basic software-development workflows.

• English level B2 or higher.

Specific Knowledge

• Experience with UAV autopilots or frameworks such as PX4, ArduPilot or comparable flight-control systems is highly valued.

• Experience integrating GNSS/INS, cameras, radios/data links, companion computers, payloads or similar UAV subsystems is highly valued.

• Familiarity with embedded Linux platforms, GStreamer/V4L2, networking and camera/video integration is valued.

• Basic RF awareness and experience with antennas or radio-system bench testing is valued; specialist RF design expertise is not required.

• Previous involvement in UAV ground tests, flight tests, field operations or production support is a strong plus.

Minimum Required Experience

0-5 years of experience in embedded systems, electronics integration, robotics, UAVs or a comparable hardware/software integration environment. Entry-level candidates with strong laboratory, vocational, academic or personal-project experience are encouraged to apply. Demonstrated ability to bring new hardware from datasheet to working system is more important than experience in formal software QA or process-heavy V&V.

The position is located in our Headquarters of Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid).

We're looking for curious, creative, tenacious and collaborative people, eager to do things and unafraid to tackle challenges in order to contribute to improving the society in wich we live.
