About Core Laboratories
Core Laboratories (Core Lab) is a leading global provider of advanced reservoir description, production enhancement, and reservoir management services for the oil and gas industry. With a history spanning over 85 years, the company operates in more than 50 countries, serving exploration and production companies with proprietary technologies, proprietary databases, and highly specialized laboratories. Core Lab’s services help clients maximize oil and gas recovery and optimize reservoir performance, and the company also manufactures and markets a broad range of patented instruments and consumables for its testing and analysis services.
The company's Barcelona office, located in the Sant Just Desvern area, serves as an important operational hub in Europe, providing laboratory services and technical support to the regional oil and gas industry. Core Lab is known for a technical, engineering-driven culture with a global footprint, making it relevant for international professionals seeking opportunities in engineering, geoscience, lab operations, and field services. The company offers a diverse, multinational work environment, and its Spain office benefits from Barcelona’s attractive location, but relocation candidates should note that the industry is subject to cyclical oil prices and the work often involves rigorous safety and technical compliance standards.

Good to know if you are moving
- Core Laboratories is a global company with operations in over 50 countries, so international employment rates are common, and work often involves multicultural teams.
- Barcelona office has established itself over years, and the city is a major European hub, providing a desirable lifestyle experience with a Mediterranean climate.
- Roles in Core Lab often require technical engineering degrees (petroleum, mechanical, or chemical engineering) and may involve laboratory-based work, so relevant education is typically necessary for a successful application.
- The company offers bilingual work environments (English routines dominate), but Spanish is often useful for day-to-day life, and volunteering to learn basic Spanish can help new expats integrate more quickly.
- Given the niche nature of oil and gas laboratory services, successful candidates usually have strong industry experience, and starting salaries are competitive but can fluctuate with energy-market cycles.
