  • Excellent oral communication skills, and a comfort with leading meetings and dealing
    with difficult conversations.
  • Excellent written communication skills, especially via email.
  • An ability to work positively and energetically within a team environment.
  • An ability to foster good relationships within Access Services, particularly those defined
    in the Key Relationships section below.

The role

The EL Production Manager is a role that straddles various operations - Australia, UK and Spain - with responsibilities from roles such as DMs, Resources, Ad Hoc/Freelance Coordinators, Trainers, Production Managers and Team Leaders. They will manage a team of subtitlers and be responsible for the ongoing development and performance management of that team. They will ensure the high quality and optimum productivity of subtitling within their own team, as well as within the wider subtitling operation. They will also coordinate closely with the Australian subtitling operation to help manage capacity, production and delivery of all their pre-recorded file output. Additionally, they will coordinate with the Spanish operation to organize ad hoc translation output. They will strive to identify cost savings and potential improvements to work processes - implementing, supporting and reporting on various projects and initiatives across and beyond the department, working effectively with colleagues as and when required. They will be responsible for ensuring communication flow to and from team members is effective. They are responsible for various record-keeping and reporting duties related to matters such as Spanish legislative compliance as well as payroll. The EL Production Manager will also regularly produce subtitles while working around a fixed shift pattern. The ratio of subtitling time to other duties will vary according to operational need, individual skills and team requirements.

What you'll do

1. Administrative:

  • Carrying out record-keeping and reporting duties, such as TOIL, overtime/LPPP/FPPP payments, leave entitlement, official leaves of absence/time off work, etc.
  • Coordinating with UK Resources for changes to rota patterns, including FWAs, parental leave, etc.
  • Managing recruitment and onboarding processes.

2. Production: Australia, UK and Spain

  • Being responsible for the management of the Australian pre-recorded worklist, i.e. ensuring the production and delivery of all output within the EL Team's remit by the TX date/time.
  • Effective collaboration with the Heads of Production in Australia, UK and Spain, SDG, DM and Resources teams to deliver client requirements.
  • Identification and resolution of issues and trends within the production process both for their team and beyond, into the wider operation.
  • Ensure that their own subtitling productivity and accuracy is of a consistently high quality.

3. Team management:

  • Strong leadership of a subtitling team.
  • Engagement and motivation of team members to ensure delivery of high performance levels.
  • Leading team members through change - especially with new technologies and new workflows.
  • Effective performance management of individuals and team so that poor performance is managed swiftly and effectively and good performance is recognised and recorded appropriately.
  • Identification and facilitation of training needs in collaboration with other areas of the department.
  • Identification and mentoring of rising stars within the team.
  • Leadership and coaching for those in need of support to achieve agreed outcomes.
  • Monitoring of and reporting on individual and team performance against targets and client SLAs.
  • Being responsible for ensuring communication flow to and from team members is effective.
  • Championing of the continuous improvement of subtitling productivity and accuracy amongst the team they lead as well as amongst their PM/TL colleagues.
  • Continuous administering of the IPM/performance reviewing process for their team - managing individual development and setting clearly defined productivity and accuracy targets.
  • Responsibility for all health and safety issues related to the team, liaising with Spain and UK HR when necessary.
