The candidate must be located in Spain.
Seniority: at least 5 years of experience in systems, infrastructure or technical operations.
Experience: the knowledge of a senior technical support specialist at a hosting company, covering servers, Linux, DNS, infrastructure, networking, traffic, email sending, domain reputation and security.
Proven experience administering and optimizing MySQL databases under heavy load.
Languages: English is mandatory (minimum B2); Spanish is highly preferred.
Hard skills:
PHP, with Symfony as a strong plus.
Experience with AWS (EC2, SES) is highly valuable.
Experience managing email-sending infrastructure is highly valuable.
Bonus, not required from day one: Mautic itself, RabbitMQ, Aerospike, ClickHouse and data pipelines, Go, and using AI tools to write and maintain code.
Soft skills:
Loves solving problems and keeping complex systems running, with a strong service mindset.
Understands the needs of non-technical teams and communicates clearly with them, without taking bug reports or tickets personally.
Stays calm and curious under a high volume of requests.
Genuine curiosity and passion for how the Internet works, backed by solid hands-on fundamentals.
Collaborative and low-ego, seeing Marketing and Product as partners
Truly Remote: Work from wherever you're most productive. We provide the tools; you provide the talent.
100% Flexible Schedule: We care about the work getting done, not the hours you're sitting at the desk. You organize your own time so you can live your life, as long as you're there to collaborate when the team needs you.
Health Insurance: We've got you covered so you can work with peace of mind.
Language Lessons: We're an international team speaking English, Spanish, French, and German. We'll help you learn a new language to help break down barriers and connect better with your colleagues.
The Epic Weekend: Once a year, we all get together in person to hang out, touch grass, and remind ourselves we're not just avatars on Slack.
Salary: We are actively working to align our budgets with market standards, offering highly competitive salary packages. For this position we estimate between 40,000€ and 47,000€ (annually)
Growth: We're a fast-growing company. If you're curious and take ownership, there's no ceiling here.
If you love getting deep into servers, databases, networking, and the inner workings of how email really gets delivered at scale, you'll feel right at home with us.
At Metricool you will be able to do so with real ownership and ample room to make the system your own. You will have the possibility to work 100% remotely, working in a high-growth international B2B SaaS, in which all members love to create, work in teams, analyze and help Community Managers make their work easier.
Your mission is to become the dedicated, specialized owner of our Mautic infrastructure (hosted on AWS, sending through Amazon SES), working closely with Borja, who will be your technical lead, and partnering with Marketing, Product, Data and Revenue to move the team from firefighting to a stable, scalable system. In the medium term, you'll also help build out our data platform and attribution work.
In this position, you will be able to make a wonderful contribution and impact in different areas:
As Senior Technical Operations Engineer,
Systems optimisation: optimise the servers, heavy MySQL databases (slow queries, indexes, table maintenance, historical data cleanup) and queues (RabbitMQ) behind our Mautic instance, a very large setup sending millions of emails a day, hosted on AWS and sending through Amazon SES.
Mautic process improvement: improve how Mautic processes run (segment synchronization, campaigns, sending jobs, croons) so segments update daily and reflect reality, and sends are fast.
System stability: monitor sends, queues and servers, detect and fix issues before they impact a campaign, and scale the platform so it can send ~3M emails/day without outages.
Keep deliverability (SPF/DKIM/DMARC, bounces, complaints) running smoothly. It's already automated, so this is more about occasional fine-tuning than a main focus.
Handle and triage requests and bug reports from Marketing (and Product) via Slack: reproduce, fix, explain, and follow up.
Respond to incidents during sends. There's no formal on-call, but availability is expected when a send is failing, and you'll always have backup.
Maintain and evolve Mautic's custom code (PHP/Symfony plugins and modules), using AI tools as support.
Document the architecture, runbooks and fixes.
Medium term: contribute to our data platform (ClickHouse, Python export pipelines, Go services, Aerospike) and to attribution.
First interview: cultural fit interview with People.
Second interview: get-to-know interview with Víctor and Borja.
If you are excited about the things that you just read, don't hesitate to apply for the job position!
Cross-functional Alignment: Collaborate closely with Marketing, Product, Data and Revenue, turning their tickets and complaints into lasting fixes rather than quick patches.
Continuous Improvement: Share what you learn, document fixes and runbooks, and help the team move from firefighting to a stable, scalable system.
Culture of Excellence: Work side by side with Borja, your technical lead, and support a feedback-driven, service-minded environment.
Long story, short: How will your first days in Metricool look like?
First month: Full context on how Mautic is set up at Metricool, infrastructure, databases, queues, SES, integrations and known issues.
First Quarter: Mautic is stable, segments update correctly, databases run healthily and Mautic doesn't go down. You'll take part in this year's Black Friday sending process and start preparing to take full ownership of it next year.
To the moon: Mautic works perfectly. You've helped build internal processes, advanced reporting and specific customizations on top of it, and you're already contributing to our data work.
