We are looking for a Legal Counsel & Legal Operations Specialist to join the Legal team of Wealth Management & Insurance at Grupo Santander, with partial dedication to legal advisory and to Legal Operations initiatives, transformation, and continuous improvement.

The selected person will combine legal work specific to WM&I activities, particularly in the areas of Asset Management, funds, investment products, and contractual/regulatory documentation, with active participation in transformation initiatives of the legal function.

The role will act as a bridge between daily legal practice and the WM&I transformation plan, supporting the Legal Operations & Transformation Manager in identifying opportunities for improvement, automation, AI, knowledge management, reporting, workflows, and process standardization.

What you'll do

In this role, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Provide legal advisory to the WM&I area, especially on matters related to Asset Management, funds, investment products, contracts, regulatory documentation, and business projects.

  • Review, draft, and negotiate legal, contractual, regulatory, or business documentation.

  • Support the Asset Management Legal teams on cross-cutting matters, including global initiatives, coordination with other geographies, and support derived from the centralization of certain activities.

  • Identify opportunities for improvement arising from daily legal activity, proposing practical solutions to simplify, standardize, or automate processes.

  • Participate in Legal Operations initiatives related to workflows, templates, playbooks, knowledge management, reporting, dashboards, matter tracking, legal spend, and document automation.

  • Support the definition and implementation of AI use cases, automation, and technological tools in coordination with Legal, Technology & Operations, AI, and other areas.

  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a common legal knowledge base, standard documentation, and best practices.

  • Help prepare materials, metrics, and executive reporting on transformation and operational improvement.

  • Collaborate closely with the Legal Operations & Transformation Manager and the WM&I legal teams to ensure the practical adoption of new tools and processes.

What we're looking for

  • Approximately 3 to 6 years of experience in in-house legal advisory, law firm, legal consulting, financial services, asset management, private banking, insurance, investment products, or a regulated environment. (Required)

  • Experience or clear interest in Legal Operations, legal tech, automation, AI, process improvement, knowledge management, reporting, or project management. (Required)

  • Ability to combine legal advisory with an operational, technological, and continuous improvement mindset. (Required)

  • Good understanding of the standard processes of a corporate legal function. (Required)
