Our mission is to help more people and businesses prosper. We embrace a strong risk culture and expect all our teams to take a proactive and responsible approach to risk management.

THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE

We are looking for a Senior Credit Risk Model Developer based in MADRID.

Your objective will be the construction of provision models under IFRS9 regulations and stress test models that comply both with the regulatory requirements of the exercises proposed by the European Banking Authority (EBA) and for management analysis and financial projections under macroeconomic, climate, sectoral, or management scenarios, as well as participating in the definition of new methodologies, extensive use of data in big data environments, advanced modeling techniques, collaborating in the coordination of a growing team, and ensuring the integration of management and the impact of such models.

We are redefining the way we work through innovation, cutting-edge technology, collaboration, and the freedom to explore new ideas.

In this role, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Modeling PD, LGD, EAD, and prepayment parameters under IFRS9 regulations, adapting existing models to changes in the current environment, credit management policies, and recoveries.

  • Developing stress test models under macroeconomic, climate, sectoral, or management scenarios.

  • Deepening knowledge of portfolios to appropriately calculate losses.

  • Analysis for the inclusion of macroeconomic scenarios in IFRS9 models.

  • Interpretation and application of regulations, legislation, and corporate standards to Santander Spain's portfolios.

  • Impact and consistency assessment to align IFRS9 models with IRB methodologies.

  • Macroeconomic and econometric knowledge for use in stress test models.

  • Knowledge of climate risk modeling techniques: transition risk and physical risk.

  • Use of new work tools for model development: R, Python, machine learning techniques, and advanced algorithms.

  • Functional support on the most relevant topics and technical review for other team members/consulting teams.

  • Functional and technical documentation of the estimation process.

  • Management and resolution of recommendations (AI, VI, AE).

  • Support and interaction with the various areas involved and regulators.

  • Reporting results to senior management.

Professional experience

  • Experience in end-to-end modeling of IRB/IFRS9 risk parameters

  • Knowledge of accounting and/or prudential regulations.

Technical skills (Hard skills)

  • Programming in: SAS/R/Python.

Interpersonal skills (Soft skills)

  • Autonomy and proactivity.

  • Teamwork and communication skills to convey knowledge to new joiners.

  • Commitment to team objectives.
