About the role

The position falls within Telefónica's Network Innovation/CDO area. The area is responsible for technological exploration in the fields of IP, optical, microwave, and satellite networks, partially supported by international projects, as well as driving the evolution and transformation of Telefónica's operations networks, both technologically (capabilities, protocols, SDN control planes, network disaggregation) and in terms of architecture and planning.

The position requires project-level coordination of work streams within the scope of Transport networks, in the field of transmission networks (optical and RF) and photonic technologies. This involves working with junior engineer teams, with other experts in the innovation area, and aligning with those responsible for other exploration lines inside and outside the organization, as well as representing Telefónica before technological bodies.
The position is expected to participate in the development of the area's innovation plan, alignment with the company plan, and contribution to securing proposals with external funding from European Union, national, and regional public programs in its field of research.

What you'll do

The tasks within research projects, related to connectivity technologies, are varied and include:
• Project planning and management, representing Telefónica and acting as an interface with the project consortium
• Developing use cases, requirements, and architectures for the technologies under research in the projects
• Techno-economic studies to establish the viability parameters of the technologies under study, or their positioning relative to other existing market alternatives
• Developing prototypes and Proofs of Concept (PoC) for the technologies under study
• Developing and executing test plans
• Experimental validation of technologies and demonstrators
• Preparing and communicating project results. This activity includes various tasks, such as drafting committed deliverables, preparing and defending research papers at international conferences and congresses, standardizing the most relevant results, or protecting them through registrations or patents when applicable.

Education & certifications

• Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering. Level: Master's.
• A Master's or Bachelor's degree in Physical Sciences is also valid, although this depends on professional experience.
• Preferably a PhD or ongoing doctoral studies, in technological fields related to networks and devices
