What we're looking for

We are looking for analytical, commercial-oriented, and responsible candidates who want to develop their professional career in short-term electricity trading and Energy Management.
You must feel comfortable working with data and operating systems, remain calm under pressure, and be motivated to learn in a 24/7 operational environment.

  • Relevant university degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, energy, economics, mathematics, physics, computer science, or a related field.
  • Great interest in electricity markets, renewable energies, trading, dispatch operations, or energy management.
  • Analytical capacity and a structured approach to problem-solving.
  • Ease of working with numbers, data, digital tools, and operating systems.
  • High sense of responsibility, attention to detail, and willingness to follow robust operational processes.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills within an international environment.
  • Ability to learn quickly, receive feedback, and assume responsibilities progressively.
  • Availability to work in a 24/7 shift environment.
  • Fluent Spanish and English.

Nice to have

  • Initial knowledge of Iberian electricity markets, OMIE, or Red Eléctrica.
  • Initial experience, whether through internships, graduate programs, or early years of professional experience, in trading, dispatch, control room operations, energy forecasting, or asset management.
  • Experience with Python, SQL, data analysis, or optimization tools.
  • Experience or exposure to renewable generation, battery storage, or other flexible assets.
  • Experience working in operational, customer service, or environments where decisions must be made within very tight timeframes.

The role

Supplying energy efficiently and reliably is one of the main challenges of an energy system with an increasing presence of solar and wind generation. Our intraday trading teams carry out daily market activities and optimize Origination activities and Statkraft's own assets. Origination and Energy Management work closely together, combining commercial expertise with 24/7 optimization capabilities in short-term markets.

The teams balance intermittent generation, manage the dispatch of flexible assets, and use both manual and automated trading solutions. We operate critical infrastructure and, therefore, combine commercial decision-making with safe, reliable, and compliant operations.

Energy Management is responsible for balancing renewable generation, managing the dispatch of flexible assets, and optimizing positions in short-term electricity markets. Traders monitor forecasts and market movements, control automated applications, coordinate with different internal teams and asset operators, and make operational decisions 24 hours a day.

Spain is a strategic growth market for Statkraft, combining renewable generation and large-scale storage with an integrated Markets and Origination platform. The Madrid team will support the continuous development of short-term trading activities and Statkraft's flexibility optimization in Spain.

As a Junior Electricity Market Operator for Spain, you will be part of Statkraft's growing 24/7 Energy Management team. With training, guidance, and support from experienced colleagues, you will learn to balance renewable generation, manage the dispatch of flexible assets, and optimize positions in short-term electricity markets.

You will work in an environment where commercial judgment, technology, and operational excellence converge. The position offers a solid professional development path to become an independent shift trader within an advanced European short-term energy trading organization.

In this role:

  • You will complete a structured onboarding and training program on Iberian electricity markets, operating systems, shift routines, and risk controls.
  • You will supervise renewable generation, battery storage, and flexible asset portfolios in real-time, under the guidance of experienced shift traders.
  • You will support the execution of trading operations and operational actions in the short-term Iberian electricity markets.
  • You will learn to identify and respond to changes in forecasts, market movements, imbalance exposure, and operational constraints.
  • You will supervise automated trading and optimization applications, escalate anomalies, and support safe operational interventions.
  • You will contribute to ensuring accurate shift handovers, operational documentation, incident tracking, and continuous improvement.
  • You will coordinate with internal teams, asset operators, and transmission system operators in accordance with established procedures.
  • You will consistently apply trading mandates, operational controls, and regulatory compliance requirements during every shift.
  • You will work with quantitative analysts, developers, portfolio managers, and traders to improve tools, models, and processes.
  • You will develop practical knowledge regarding battery optimization, flexibility products, and renewable energy portfolio management.
  • You will develop the judgment, discipline, and sense of responsibility necessary to progressively assume greater responsibility in real market situations.
  • You will contribute to an open learning culture through feedback, knowledge sharing, and structured reflection.
