The role

Context

The Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC), a research center of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, is a pioneering center in research for the prevention of Alzheimer's disease and the study of cognitive functions affected by healthy and pathological aging. Founded in 2012 by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, with the support of Pompeu Fabra University and the impetus of the "la Caixa" Foundation through its flagship project, the ALFA cohort, the BBRC aims to provide innovative solutions to understand and prevent the biological changes and cognitive dysfunctions associated with neurodegenerative diseases.

With an eye on the global challenge posed by the aging population, the BBRC develops cutting-edge scientific research through top-tier technological infrastructures, including a 3T magnetic resonance scanner exclusive to research and spaces dedicated to clinical trials. The quality of the research is based on efficient management and a continuous evaluation system based on independent expert review processes.

The BBRC is part of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB), one of the most dynamic biomedical ecosystems in Europe. The PRBB offers an international, collaborative, and multidisciplinary environment, with a close connection to clinical activity that favors translational research.

The BBRC has been recognized with the HR Excellence in Research (HRS4R) seal awarded by the European Commission, which accredits the institutional commitment to the continuous improvement of human resources policies and to an open, transparent, and merit-based working environment, aligned with the European Charter for Researchers.

Hospital del Mar, a university hospital linked to Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and integrated into the public health system of Catalonia, provides comprehensive healthcare and actively participates in health research and prevention programs. The Hospital del Mar Research Institute (HMRIB) is the biomedical research institute of Hospital del Mar accredited by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III. Pompeu Fabra University is a public university located in Barcelona, continuously recognized among the best universities in the State and with a prominent international projection.

The BBRC, in close collaboration with leading clinical and academic institutions, offers a unique and fully integrated environment that combines clinical care, translational research, and academic innovation to advance the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Additionally, the BBRC is a prominent member of the Alzheimer Barcelona HUB, a pioneering initiative that brings together research centers specialized in Alzheimer's and neurodegenerative disorders, as well as the city's main hospitals, including Hospital de Sant Pau, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Hospital del Mar, and Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron.

This project, driven with the support of the Barcelona City Council, aims to accelerate scientific progress, improve the clinical care of people affected by Alzheimer's disease, and strengthen Barcelona's leadership in the research of these pathologies.

The creation of this HUB will contribute to promoting scientific excellence, attracting investment, favoring the transfer of knowledge to clinical practice, and driving specialized training in Alzheimer's and neurodegenerative diseases.
