We are seeking a highly motivated pre-doctoral researcher in Chemical Physics or Materials Chemistry to work on the design of advanced Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) catalysts. The project focuses on integrating multifunctional active sites within MOF pore architectures to enable the low-temperature conversion of carbon dioxide into alcohols, combining plasma-assisted processes with enzyme- and nanozyme-based transformations.
The candidate will be primarily based at BCMaterials, where they will conduct the synthesis and preliminary characterization of MOF catalysts. Advanced characterization and catalytic testing will be carried out during secondment periods at partner research institutions within the European C2FUELS consortium.
This is a full-time, three-year position for an early stage researcher funded under the Horizon Europe programme (Call HORIZON-CL5-2024-D3-02-02).
BCMaterials, the Basque Center on Materials, Applications and Nanostructures, is an autonomous materials research center launched in June 2012 by Ikerbasque and the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). It is part of the BERC (Basque Excellence Research Centers) network and counts 131 researchers (105 staff researchers plus 26 associates), with 241 Scopus indexed publications in 2025 and around 5,800,000 € in funding, 99% of it competitive.
The center generates knowledge on the new generation of smart, active and multifunctional materials and turns it into (multi)functional solutions and devices for the benefit of society. Its strategic areas cover environmental prevention, remediation and monitoring; energy generation and storage; digitalization and emerging technologies such as sensors and actuators for the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0; and biomedicine and biotechnology, including nanoparticle-based solutions and organ-on-a-chip approaches.
