Senior BESS Engineer

Technical specialist in battery energy storage systems (BESS), providing expert support during the design, tendering, technical review, manufacturing, FAT, commissioning, operation, and incident resolution phases for EPC projects of photovoltaic plants and hybrid PV+BESS systems.

They will be the internal technical reference within the Generation Engineering team for BESS technology, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, performance guarantees, and the proper integration of the system with the rest of the plant.

Main Responsibilities

• Technical review of BESS manufacturer offers.

• Evaluation of storage technologies and architectures.

• Review of manufacturer technical documentation.

• Review and validation of electrical designs for BESS systems.

• Review of integration studies with PPC and SCADA.

• Participation in technical due diligence processes.

• Preparation of technical specifications for procurement.

• Technical follow-up during manufacturing.

• Participation in FAT and SAT.

• Technical support during commissioning.

• Analysis and resolution of field incidents.

• Review of compliance with performance guarantees.

• Monitoring of KPIs and battery degradation.

- Education: Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Electronics

A specialized Master's degree in energy storage is valued.

- 5 years of experience in large-scale energy storage systems (Utility Scale BESS).

- Demonstrable experience with BESS system manufacturers, integrators, or EPCs.

- Knowledge of the complete architecture of a BESS system:

• Battery cells, modules, and racks.

• Battery Management System (BMS).

• Power Conversion System (PCS).

• Energy Management System (EMS).

• Transformers and Medium Voltage switchgear.

• HVAC systems.

• Fire detection and suppression systems.

- Experience in technical review of BESS manufacturer documentation.

- Experience in conducting and/or supervising FAT, SAT, and commissioning tests.

- Ability to analyze BESS system performance using indicators such as:

• State of Charge (SOC).

• State of Health (SOH).

• Round Trip Efficiency (RTE).

• Availability.

• Capacity Tests.

• Performance Ratio of the storage system.

- Knowledge of battery degradation mechanisms and analysis of performance guarantees.

- Experience in analysis and resolution of technical incidents (troubleshooting) during manufacturing, commissioning, and operation.

- Knowledge of BESS system integration with:

• SCADA.

• PPC (Power Plant Controller).

• Utility scale photovoltaic plants.

- Interpretation of electrical schematics, communications architecture, and control systems.

- Knowledge of regulations and standards applicable to BESS systems.

- Experience in incident resolution and troubleshooting.
