Skills

Nice to have

SGS is hiring for this role in several places. This vacancy is in Madrid.

Requirements

What we're looking for

What you bring on day one.

  • Product ownership in production - Several years owning a B2B or enterprise product with real customers and real releases, including decisions you had to reverse.
  • Precise specification writing - You’ve written specs engineers built without coming back to ask, and you can show us one. You write precise English.
  • Discovery experience - You’ve taken part in user research and feedback triage, ideally alongside a dedicated researcher, and turned the findings into scope and metrics a customer agreed to.
  • Technical fluency - You’re comfortable with SQL, reading code, APIs, data models and permissions. You don’t write production code, but you can verify a claim without waiting for an engineer.
  • AI judgement - You use AI tools every day in your product work, you know where they invent, and you have a clear view on what you’d never delegate to them.

Who you are

  • You write behaviour, not intent. “Search should be smarter” is a wish to you, not a spec. You name the edge case before an engineer finds it.
  • You trust evidence over opinion, including your own. You count before you claim, and you’d rather drop a metric that can’t fail than keep one that looks good on a slide.
  • You own the outcome from the first customer conversation to the release note. When a stakeholder asks for something, it goes through the spec, not around it.
  • You’re energised by open problems. Much of what we build has no known-good answer yet, and you find it with users, one phase at a time.
  • You raise the bar for the people around you: low ego, high standards, and able to keep a researcher, a customer and an engineer aligned on one spec.

What you'll get

What we offer

  • A team of doers - Work alongside 14 people who build rather than coordinate. Everyone writes, ships and owns their work.
  • Real product ownership - You decide what the product does. You won’t be grooming someone else’s backlog or running ceremonies.
  • Growth through scope, not titles -  There’s no ladder to climb. Your influence grows with what you ship: more products, more of the platform, and a bigger say in how SGS builds AI for its customers.
  • An AI-native way of working - Build 100% AI-assisted, with our agentic development framework as your daily tool for drafting, prototyping, reading code and analysing feedback.
  • A unique problem space - Build for the people who run quality, inspection and testing work around the world, with one-of-a-kind data from global supply chains and industrial testing.

Why join SGS?

  • Opportunity to work with a global leader in inspection, verification, testing, and certification.
  • Collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development.

Join Us: At SGS, we are dedicated to fostering an open, friendly, and supportive culture that thrives on teamwork. We value diversity and provide endless opportunities to learn, grow your expertise, and fulfill your potential.

The role

You own the what. Engineers own the how and when. Our AI agents build inside both.

We’re looking for a Senior Product Owner who decides what the product does and writes it down so precisely that nobody has to guess. That’s why this role carries more weight in our team than almost anywhere else.

You’ll learn from users alongside our User Research Lead, check what the product actually does, write the specs and working mockups it’s built from, and stay with every release until it’s live and measured. Because every product runs on a shared platform, your best decisions don’t stay in one product. They become capabilities that every product after it gets for free.

What you’ll build and own

What you'll do

  • Discovery in partnership. Work hand in hand with our User Research Lead on interviews, demos and working sessions with customers and users. Together, you’ll turn what you hear into dated findings: what was said in users’ own words, what it proves, and what it doesn’t. You own what happens next: every point a customer raises is shaped into scope, routed or recorded.
  • Truth before decisions. Before you shape a request, check it against reality. Reproduce it in the app, read the code, query the data, read the logs. “Not reproduced” is a finding too.
  • The roadmap and the reasoning. Own the roadmap as a sequence of phases, each with a clear purpose, guardrails and open questions. When the answer isn’t obvious, write the proposal first, then log the decision and why.
  • Specs and mockups built from directly. Write specs at story depth, with who it’s for, how we’ll know it worked, Given/When/Then acceptance criteria including the edge cases, and an explicit not in scope. Build the mockup as a working HTML prototype on our design system.
  • Delivery at AI speed. Write tickets an AI agent can close without asking anyone. Answer questions the same day, push every decision back into the spec, review changes as they land, and ship in small, complete, versioned phases.
  • The words and the outcome. Own every label, empty state, error message, Help Center article and What’s New. Measure outcomes against success criteria agreed with the customer, and be honest when there’s no baseline yet.
