What you'll get
We offer immediate incorporation with a vocation for stability, an activity oriented towards applied research, continuous training, and appropriate remuneration according to the competencies provided.
Being part of a cutting-edge research commitment in digital technologies applied to cultural heritage.
Specialization in 3D digitization technologies, with special emphasis on 3D photogrammetry (terrestrial and aerial, drones), its fundamentals, and research challenges (computational efficiency, precision, etc.), in collaboration with international benchmarks in the field.
Opportunity for a doctoral thesis and/or international postdoctoral stay.
Tekniker has a hybrid work model that combines in-person and remote modalities, favoring work-life balance and sustainability. We have different work-life balance measures that allow for attending to personal needs and work needs. Requirements
What we're looking for
The knowledge we believe is necessary for the development of this activity is:
- Education in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or related areas.
- Previous experience in the field of 2D or 3D image processing.
- Knowledge in software development (C++, Python, Matlab, GPU processing...).
- English at C1 or B2 level. Ideally, proficiency in Basque.
- Ability to work in a team and communicate results clearly.
The role
We would like to recruit a researcher to strengthen the 3D Digitization Research Line in the field of Digital Heritage, within the Industrial Metrology unit.
We are looking for a person to lead research projects in vision technologies applied to 3D digitization. The line addresses the study, characterization, and 3D documentation of high-value heritage elements, ensuring their quality and precision. Applications cover multiple scales (from objects to monuments and buildings applying geodesic approaches) and the fusion of techniques (terrestrial and aerial photogrammetry, LiDAR, etc.) and advanced tools for data acquisition and processing.
Recent advances in digital technologies are transforming cultural heritage, especially through photogrammetry as a key 3D digitization technique due to its precision, low cost, and scalability, from small objects to large archaeological sites using drones. Thanks to improvements in processing capacity (i.e.: GPU, AI, etc.), this technique has reached efficiency and quality comparable to other 3D scanning systems, which has driven its mass adoption, further reinforced by international players such as Epic Games from the field of creative industries and immersive technologies. Even so, a key research challenge persists: the lack of international standards, knowledge, and software tools to evaluate and control the quality and metrological uncertainty of dense point clouds, a problem that is especially complex in photogrammetry due to its multivariable nature and the large number of error sources involved.
We are looking for a person who brings experience in the field of computer science / computer vision (C++, Python, Matlab, GPU processing, etc.).
We especially value an experienced, proactive profile, with the ability to adapt to different projects and the initiative to generate new ideas.
What you'll do
- Lead research projects on precision and dimensional metrology principles applied to 3D photogrammetry (terrestrial, drones, etc.), towards the development of new processing tools and international quality standards in the field of digital heritage.
- Development and implementation of advanced processing strategies in 3D photogrammetry, along with the mastery and application of leading commercial photogrammetric environments (RealityScan, Agisoft, etc.), in collaboration with international benchmarks in this field (Unesco, Epic Games, etc.).
- Direct participation in digitization projects in iconic case studies of cultural heritage, at both local and international levels.
- Collaboration with the team in the generation of new ideas and research lines.
- Active participation in the preparation of proposals, contributing to both technological definition and budget estimation.
- Interaction with clients and research groups nationally and internationally, including collaboration on European projects.
- Dissemination of results through the writing of reports, scientific articles, and presentations in technical forums.
