Job description

Ingeteam, a leading company specialized in electrical engineering and the development of electrical equipment, motors, generators, and frequency converters, is looking to hire a Power Hardware Engineer for the Aeronautical Sector at its Zamudio facilities.

Your mission will be to design and validate power hardware for electric propulsion systems and energy conversion. Specifically, for the development of the power stage associated with DC/AC inverters for electric machines and DC/DC converters, including the selection of semiconductors (Si/SiC/GaN), magnetics, associated sensing, thermal design, and EMC/EMI considerations from early stages.

You will join the company's R&D area within a multidisciplinary group focused on aeronautical systems.

Your main responsibilities will be:

-Analyze the state of the art in aeronautical power electronics (topologies, WBG semiconductors, drivers, magnetics, cooling), and subsequently, based on requirements, lead the concept design, schematics, component selection, manufacturing, validation, and final testing of:

o DC/AC inverters (2/3-level, multiphase, etc.) for electric motors.
o DC/DC converters (isolated and non-isolated: LLC, PSFB, DAB, interleaved, etc.) for electrical power distribution.

-Analyze customer specifications, breaking down the specification and defining the applicable requirements for the power hardware design. Requirements management ensuring traceability against design, analysis, and verification testing.

-Define and justify the power architecture (voltages/currents, insulation levels, protection strategy, and derating), including loss/efficiency calculations and sizing of critical components.

-Design schematics and participate in the power layout (high-current paths, minimization of parasitic inductances, dv/dt and di/dt control, insulation/creepage/clearance distances, barriers, shielding), considering manufacturing recommendations and EMC rules.

-Select and size:

o Semiconductors (MOSFET/IGBT/SiC/GaN), diodes, snubbers, clamp circuits. o Gate drivers (isolated/non-isolated), driver power supplies, DESAT protection, soft shutdown, Miller clamp, etc.
o Magnetics (inductors, transformers), DC-link capacitors (film/electrolytic), current/voltage sensors (Hall, shunt, fluxgate, Rogowski), contactors/precharge if applicable.

-Design and coordinate the thermal system: loss estimation, heatsink/cold plate design, thermal interface materials, cooling requirements (air/liquid), and support for thermal simulations with the corresponding team.

-Define and execute (or coordinate) protection strategies: OCP/SCP, OVP, UVLO, OTP, driver fault, shoot-through, bus discharge, transient management, robustness against faults.

-Plan and execute the validation and verification of the power stage: functional tests, efficiency, thermal, SOA, transients, EMI/EMC characterization, and support for environmental testing (DO-160) when applicable.

-Manage design changes and collaborate with other departments (control, firmware, mechanical, systems, quality, and certification) to agree on changes considering impact on requirements and testing.

-Procure critical components (lead times, alternates, obsolescence) and follow up on manufacturing/assembly until prototypes and first articles are obtained.

-Write technical documentation: internal specifications, design justifications (calculations/derating), test reports, and support for customer audits/certification.

Minimum requirements:

-Degree in Electrical / Electronic / Telecommunications Engineering or similar.

-Minimum 4 years of experience in power electronics design in the aeronautical, automotive, railway, or high-demand industrial sectors.

-Proven experience in DC/DC converters and/or DC/AC inverters (three-phase), including sizing, component selection, and prototype commissioning.

-Knowledge of: Power semiconductors (IGBT/MOSFET) and wide bandgap (SiC/GaN): selection criteria, switching, losses, gate driving, and ringing/EMI mitigation. EMI/EMC in power electronics: input/output filters, common/differential modes, shielding, layout strategies, and laboratory measurements (LISN, current probes, near-field, etc.). Power magnetics (design/selection) and critical passive components (DC-link, film capacitors, busbars, laminates).

-Experience with design and simulation tools: o CAD: Altium / OrCAD (or equivalent) for schematics and PCB support. o Simulation: LTspice/PSIM/PLECS/Simplis (or equivalent) for topology and transient analysis.

-English minimum C1 level.

-Writing reports and conducting technical meetings with customers.

The following will be valued:

-Knowledge of thermal/EM tools (Ansys, Icepak, Q3D, Maxwell) and signal integrity tools (e.g., HyperLynx).

-Applicable standards/processes:
o Knowledge of DO-254 is valued (if part of the hardware has certification implications) and/or experience with equivalent processes (ISO 26262, IEC 61508) following the V-cycle.
o Experience or familiarity with DO-160 (environmental/EMC testing for avionics/embedded equipment).

-Experience with requirements management and traceability tools (Polarion, DOORS), writing requirements, and creating internal specifications from customer requirements.

We offer:

- Joining an innovative organization leading in Power Electronics, being part of the contribution to the energy transition, impacting the triple bottom line (social, environmental, and economic).

- Flexible working hours and other work-life balance measures.

- Compensation commensurate with the candidate's experience.

- Permanent contract.

- Integration into a young, dynamic, and technologically cutting-edge team.

At Ingeteam we value diversity and facilitate the integration of people with disabilities. Therefore, if you meet the general requirements of the position and hold a certificate of disability of 33% or more, Ingeteam will positively consider your application.
