What we're looking for

We are looking for someone who understands that Xamfrà is not a social assistance project, but a rights-based project. A person who feels called by it, not by the arts themselves, but by what the arts can do to build community, generate spaces of belonging, and create opportunities for transformation.

This person must have genuine curiosity about the social reality of the city and its time, knowledge or the willingness to learn about the educational and cultural inequalities affecting neighborhoods and families, and an understanding of politics as a collective tool for building the common good—not as a party ideology, but as a commitment to rights and the general interest.

They must know how to move in environments where the unexpected is part of the method. Xamfrà works with margins of uncertainty that are not chaos, but breadth: the capacity to see in the unplanned an opportunity for growth. This person does not need total control; they need judgment.

  • Very high relational capacity: generates trust and moves well in institutional and community environments simultaneously.
  • Narrative strength: knows how to write, explain, and adapt the message without losing its essence.
  • Institutional intelligence: reads contexts and understands the interests and processes of organizations.
  • Autonomy and judgment: makes decisions, proposes, and does not wait to be told exactly how.
  • Community sensitivity: not as an abstract requirement, but as a way of looking at the world.
  • Comfort with complexity: they are not afraid of what does not fit into a scheme; they are interested in it.

Nice to have

  • Trajectory in private fundraising in culture, the third sector, education, or social impact.
  • Experience in relationships with foundations and donor or collaborating companies.
  • Writing of proposals, projects, or justification reports.
  • Institutional communication or management of organizational narrative.
  • Sensitivity and knowledge in areas such as community culture, education, cultural rights, social inclusion, or the social and solidarity economy are especially valued.

The role

Our client was born in 1967 as a music, visual arts, and oral expression workshop, with pedagogical principles that were innovative for the time: art as a tool for integral education and cultural practice as a right for all people, not a privilege for a few. It was formally established as a foundation in 1992.

Since then, the Foundation has expanded its scope without losing its compass: putting the arts at the service of people and the community. Its socio-educational model is based on the conviction that continuous artistic and cultural participation contributes to dignity, social cohesion, and the transformation of inequalities.

Today, the Foundation operates through three main projects: Xamfrà, Centre de Música i Escena del Raval (2004); the Can Ponsic Municipal Music School (2001), managed through public tender; and El Teler de Música (2013), a resource and reflection platform for arts education professionals.

The center for which the Strategic Communication and Fundraising Manager is being sought: Xamfrà

Xamfrà is a socio-educational center located in the Raval neighborhood of Barcelona that advocates for the universal right to artistic practice. Through music, dance, and performing arts workshops, it offers a meeting space for children, youth, and families from very diverse backgrounds and situations, with special attention to people in situations of greater vulnerability.

Xamfrà does not work from a logic of assistance, but from a logic of rights. Its model bets on collective participation, diversity as a value, and culture as a tool for building the common good. It is a project recognized with numerous awards, including the National Culture Prize (2020), the Gold Medal of the Spanish Performing Arts Academy (2022), the Solidarity Prize of the Human Rights Institute of Catalonia (2019), and the Barcelona City Education Prize (2006).

Currently, it is the Foundation's project with the greatest public visibility, the greatest need for strategic communication, and the greatest requirement for external resource fundraising to guarantee its sustainability.

What you'll do

The role is situated between the General Management and the projects, with a direct and priority connection to Xamfrà, and providing transversal service to the entire Foundation. It has a strategic mandate and full operational autonomy within its scope.

Identification and cultivation of relationships with foundations, companies, and administrations, with special dedication to private fundraising. Preparation of proposals and reports, monitoring of opportunities, and management of the complete fundraising cycle.

Fundraising will not be based on welfare narratives or the exploitation of vulnerability, but on the construction of alliances committed to cultural rights, social cohesion, and community transformation.

Definition and management of the communicative strategy of Xamfrà and the Foundation. Construction of the institutional narrative. Translation of the pedagogical and social value of the project into languages understandable to very diverse interlocutors, without denaturing the project.

Coordination with the General Management in the relationship with key actors in the third sector, the cultural field, and the social impact ecosystem. Construction of medium and long-term strategic networks and partnerships.

About the company & team

This person joins an environment where the organizational culture is as important as the functions of the position.

Xamfrà has a team with a trajectory, with a strong bond to the project and with a way of working that combines pedagogical rigor with a high capacity for welcoming and adaptation. It is not a team where you learn from a manual: it is a team where you learn by listening, observing, and participating.

The main relationship will be with the General Management, with whom they will work in close contact to align strategy, message, and opportunities. But the real work involves understanding Xamfrà from the inside: knowing the people, the projects, the families, and the spaces. Without this rooting, fundraising and communication do not work.

It is expected that this person has the capacity to move between two worlds that often do not speak enough: the world of funding organizations—foundations, companies, administrations—and the living, complex, and rich world of Xamfrà. Their function is to build honest bridges in both directions.

It is not a role of formal representation: it is a role of presence, relationship, and shared construction.
