Aerodynamics and Thermal Fluid Dynamics Engineer

At Rheinmetall Expal Munitions, we are looking for new profiles for our Simulation department. In this position, you will perform the analysis of the external and in-flight aerodynamic response of the company's products, mostly supersonic, as well as the behavior of the internal aerodynamics of the products, such as in nozzle design or in the combustion of solid propellants and their structural interaction. Additionally, you will perform the thermal study of the products, whether aerodynamic or due to chemical reactions.

Functions:

• Compressible Flows and Advanced Aerodynamics: Mastery of supersonic/hypersonic regimes, rigorous capture of shock waves and discontinuities, and treatment of boundary layers.
• Turbulence Modeling: Advanced handling of RANS models (k-omega, SST, RSM) and resolved-scale models (DES, LES, SBES) for separated flows or high dynamics.
• Combustion and Chemical Reactions: Definition of chemical kinetics (EDC, PDF, Flamelet models), species, and heat transfer by radiation.
• Thermal Transients and Nonlinearity: Implicit/explicit transient solvers for fluid-solid thermal coupling (C3D / CHT - Conjugate Heat Transfer or similar). To successfully address coupled multiphysics cases (FSI or Fluid-Structure Interaction), it would be interesting:
• Handling of ANSYS System Coupling / Workbench: Defining data transfer interfaces (aerodynamic loads/pressures > structure, displacements > CFD mesh, temperature fields > thermal stresses).
• Coupling Strategies: Criteria to determine when to employ one-way coupling (e.g., steady/transient CFD exported as a thermal or pressure load to Mechanical) or two-way coupling (step-by-step coupled transient for aeroelasticity or flutter).
• HPC Infrastructure: Practical knowledge in license configuration, mesh partitioning, and parallelization in supercomputing/cluster environments for intensive simulation.
