About the team you are joining

We are seeking a motivated and proactive Intern to support IATA's activities in Spain and Portugal. Working directly with the Country Manager, you will contribute to IATA's lobbying, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement work, helping to promote a competitive, safe, and sustainable air transport environment in the region.
This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in aviation policy, government relations, sustainability, and strategic industry affairs.

What your day would be like

1. Support Advocacy & Lobbying Activities
Assisting the Country Manager and first-hand exposure, engaging with national and regional authorities, industry partners, and aviation stakeholders. This includes contributing to work related to:

Regulatory developments affecting airlines (e.g., airport charges, consumer protection, airspace efficiency, slot coordination);

Sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives (e.g., SAF policies, Refuel EU aviation implementation, national sustainability plans);

Operational and infrastructure issues (e.g., ATC performance, airport capacity planning, security processes);

Economic and competitiveness topics impacting member airlines.

2. Research & Policy Analysis
You will strengthen your analytical skills by:
Monitoring and interpreting regulatory, legislative, and political developments in Spain and Portugal;

Drafting briefing notes, policy summaries, presentations, and talking points used in high-level meetings;

Assessing the potential impacts of new policies or regulations on airlines.


3. Stakeholder Engagement Support
Assist in preparing materials for meetings with ministries, civil aviation authorities, airports, tourism bodies, and other industry partners;

Help organize and attend events, workshops, and working groups.


4. Project & Administrative Support
Support ongoing projects, data collection, and reporting for the Madrid office;

Coordinate logistics for meetings, conferences, ceremonies, and communications activities;

Contribute to internal coordination with IATA regional and central teams.
