Job description

About Enterprise Capabilities

Fundamental to our strategy of Think and Act Globally and digital adoption, Enterprise Capabilities (EC) is the primary vehicle for shared work at AECOM.

With a team of over 3,000 technical professionals based across nine countries, EC teams deliver high-quality specialized services that help bridge capacity gaps, resource needs, and technical constraints on projects of all scopes and sizes.

We are currently looking to expand our Hydraulic Engineering team by hiring a Senior Engineer with experience in drainage design for highways and rail. Our team provides assessment, feasibility, preliminary, and detailed designs across a wide range of projects. Our clients span the private and public sectors, including long-term framework agreements with numerous local authorities, as well as design and build commissions for major contractors. We have a strong track record of successfully delivering water-related designs over many years in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, among others.

As a Senior Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on some of the most iconic transportation and water projects, as part of a diverse and multicultural team within the Europe Global Delivery Center (Poland/Spain).

Your responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Developing basic and detailed engineering tasks involving calculations and design of drainage solutions for highways and rail, ensuring the effectiveness and sustainability of projects.

  • Conducting comprehensive hydrological and hydraulic analyses, including the sizing of culverts, design of stormwater drainage systems, creation of cross-drainage structures, and assessment of flood impacts at highway and rail crossings.

  • Leading conceptual and final design of drainage infrastructure, covering culverts, stormwater drainage systems, detention facilities, channels, and erosion control measures, all integrated with highway and rail alignments and grading plans.

  • Performing rigorous self-checks of work products prior to submission and actively participating in quality control reviews of documentation prepared by less experienced staff.

  • Collaborating with project managers by providing valuable technical input, effectively managing schedules, and ensuring quality across all project phases.

  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and drafters, fostering their professional development and contributing to building a highly competent team.

Requirements

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Canal and Port Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience of over 8 years in drainage design for highways or rail projects.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Proficiency in drainage-related hydraulic and hydrology software packages, such as Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis and/or StormCAD, HEC-RAS/HMS, etc.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD/BIM/Digital Engineering tools (preferably Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads Designer).
  • Experience with international regulations and standards (i.e., AASHTO, AWWA, Australian Codes, British Standards, etc.) will be an advantage.
  • Experience working in the North America/Australia region will be considered favorably.
