At Matteco we are dedicated to the development of new materials to decarbonize the economy.
We have started with an innovative technology that reduces the production cost of green hydrogen. Thanks to our catalysts and electrodes, which we design and manufacture, we can have a great impact on the efficiency of electrolysis.
Building on 10 years of R&D in research centers, the project was born from Zubi Labs, the IMPACT VENTURE BUILDER of Zubi Group, from where triple-impact companies are created and scaled—that is, those that seek to generate not only economic benefits but also social and environmental value.
Matteco is born with a great purpose and ambition: to be the global leading company in new materials that help us on our path toward sustainability and thereby build a better future. Today at Matteco we are 30 people and we are in our first year of life, but we know that everything small can be great. Furthermore, The Objective named us the most promising startup born in 2023—who knows!

Our co-founder and CEO is the serial entrepreneur and successful investor Iker Marcaide, a true fan of impact, who also founded Flywire, the first Spanish-origin company to go public on the Nasdaq valued at $3.3bn. In 2014, already back in Spain, Iker began the Zubi adventure with the goal of creating impact companies to solve social and environmental challenges such as climate change, the creation of a circular economy, or poverty alleviation, mobilizing talent and co-investments to create companies and investment funds. The growth of this group of companies led him in 2022 to consolidate all his impact investments into a holding company, which we call Zubi Group.
In 2023, after co-founding Matteco from Zubi Labs, he decided to take a more active role in the project by assuming the role of CEO.
