The role

As a Principal Engineer, you will combine hands-on software engineering with strategic technical leadership, designing scalable cloud-native platforms and guiding architectural decisions. You will drive innovation, mentor engineers, and help evolve Viaplay's streaming ecosystem through modern engineering and AI-powered development practices.

What you'll do

Define and drive the long-term technical vision and architecture of the platform.
Design and develop scalable, resilient backend services using Node.js, Rust, and AWS.
Lead modernization and migration initiatives for complex distributed systems.
Support the transition towards event-driven and serverless architectures.
Influence engineering standards, best practices, and architectural decisions across multiple teams.
Mentor senior engineers and act as a technical role model within the organization.
Drive adoption of AI-assisted engineering methodologies and development workflows.
Establish knowledge-sharing practices and lead cross-functional technical initiatives.
Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams in an agile, autonomous environment.
Define integration strategies with third-party platforms and commercial solutions.

Who are we looking for (M/F/D)?

Extensive experience in software engineering, ideally as a Principal Engineer, Technical Lead, Technical Architect, or Technical Director.
Strong background in JavaScript, TypeScript, and at least one additional modern language such as Rust or Python.
Proven expertise designing highly scalable, cloud-native solutions on AWS.
Experience leading technical strategy and influencing engineering organizations.
Strong understanding of microservices, distributed systems, and high-transaction digital products.
Experience working in agile, product-focused environments.
Demonstrated success implementing AI-assisted development practices.
Excellent communication, mentoring, and stakeholder-management skills.
Experience with large-scale system modernization and platform migration projects.
Exposure to the media, streaming, or entertainment sector would be advantageous
