Roles & Responsibilities

This professional, under the supervision of the Department Manager and/or the Curator of Terrestrial Mammals, is responsible for the control, management, and handling of both the zoological collection in the Terrestrial Mammals area and the staff associated with that area. They schedule and organize the human and material resources available to them. They take into account the tasks to be carried out in order to proceed with the organization while applying animal welfare criteria, occupational risk prevention, food safety, and company regulations.

They will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Control and care of animals associated with the Terrestrial Mammals area, ensuring their health and well-being.
  • Coordination of feeding and cleaning of the animals and their facilities. If necessary, they will carry out these tasks directly.
  • Check the health status of the animals and the proper functioning/condition of the facilities, reporting any deficiencies and/or alterations observed to their immediate supervisor.
  • Coordinate and carry out animal handling, both routine and special.
  • Support the veterinary team in medical procedures.
  • Operation of machinery (dumper, forklift, etc.).
  • Ensure the safety of animal enclosures, as well as the procedures used for handling these animals, especially when dealing with dangerous animals.
  • Coordinate and carry out training and enrichment activities with the animals.
  • Ensure strict compliance with work protocols by the staff under their supervision.
  • Direct and coordinate the staff under their supervision, achieving optimal performance from keepers and trainees.
  • Administrative management of their area (work schedules, incidents, etc.).
  • On-the-job training for the staff under their supervision.

  • Work capacity and flexibility.
  • Training related to animals or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of the English language.
