The role
Technical Project manager area Devops / SRE/ Observability Unit mission
The Observability unit guarantees end-to-end visibility of the bank's applications and infrastructures. Their work enables early anomaly detection and contributes to the availability, performance, and stability of the services used by clients and employees. It supports 24x7 operations, which act as the first line of response and escalate incidents to the corresponding on-call teams.
Position Mission
Lead the governance and evolution of the corporate observability model. The person will be responsible for driving common standards, policies, and best practices in a complex technological environment, coordinating their adoption with the involved areas, and monitoring platforms and providers. Direct technical administration of the tools falls to the specialized teams; this position requires technical judgment to guide decisions, question proposals, and translate needs between architecture, operations, service owners, and management.
Context and main challenge
The bank is defining a new architecture and a common observability model to replace the current fragmentation of solutions among teams. The initial proposal for architecture, tools, and policies has already been presented. The challenge is to convert it into an operating standard and extend its adoption through a transversal transformation planned for approximately two years.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
· Define, evolve, and govern monitoring, logging, tracing, and APM standards and policies, aligned with the bank's technological strategy.
· Coordinate the deployment of the new observability model and its transversal initiatives, monitoring priorities, dependencies, results, and risks.
· Work with service owners, architecture, development, infrastructure, operations, SRE, and processes to agree on the instrumentation and adoption of the model.
· Act as the functional and technical interlocutor with providers and specialist teams, supervising availability, evolution, service quality, and the correct use of the platforms.
· Promote best practices for metrics, alerts, dashboards, and traceability, and ensure the quality and reliability of observability data.
· Define and monitor service indicators, including KPIs and, where appropriate, SLIs and SLOs, to detect opportunities for improving resilience and user experience.
· Collaborate with operations teams in the analysis of incidents, root causes, and improvement plans, facilitating early detection and escalations.
· Evaluate market solutions and propose technological and service improvements, especially in cloud initiatives, microservices, and distributed platforms.
How you'll work
No preference between Barcelona, Madrid, or Alicante, as long as the person can attend their workplace according to the bank's hybrid model. The team usually attends in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays; coordination between sites is also carried out via Teams.
Skills
Clear communication with technical and business interlocutors, analytical thinking, autonomy, capacity for execution, transversal influence, and orientation toward continuous improvement. A balance between technical depth and management capacity is required; this is not a development or daily tool administration role.
