The role

Have you ever ordered something on Amazon and wondered how it reached you so fast? The answer starts years earlier, with a plan. Long Term Planning decides which of our sites connect to which, how volume flows between them, and how much capacity we need — one to three years ahead of the customer placing the order.

We are looking for a Technical Program Manager to join that team in Madrid. You will own the mechanisms that turn dozens of separate inputs — demand forecasts, building plans, speed targets, cost targets, capacity constraints — into one coherent plan for Amazon's European network. It is a role for someone who is comfortable both in the data and in a room of senior stakeholders, and who would rather build a repeatable process than run the same manual exercise twice.

What you'll do

Key job responsibilities

Run the planning calendar for one or more planning cycles end to end: set the timeline, secure the inputs, chase the gaps, and keep 20+ partner teams aligned to it.

Own the input intake process. Define what "good" looks like for each input, build the validation checks, and hold partner teams to that standard.

Turn business questions into scenarios, run them through our planning tools, and explain what the numbers say and what we should do about it.

Build and automate the reporting layer — the views that let planners and leadership see plan versus prior plan, and understand what changed and why.

Write concise, data-backed status updates and review documents for senior leadership. Drive open decisions to closure and track them.

Find the parts of the planning process that are manual, slow or error-prone, and work with engineers, scientists and analysts to fix them at the root.

A day in the life

You start by checking whether this week's inputs have landed and passed validation. Mid-morning you are in a partner-team review, unblocking a missing assumption. The afternoon you spend in the data, quantifying what that assumption does to speed, cost and capacity, and writing up the answer for a decision meeting later in the week.

In their own words

About the company & team

About the team

Long Term Planning designs Amazon's European transportation network one to three years out, optimising for delivery speed, cost to serve and customer experience. Our plans are the basis for building, capacity and investment decisions across the region, so we sit at the centre of a wide set of partners — Operations, Finance, Science, Product, Engineering and Retail. The team is a mix of program managers, business intelligence engineers, scientists and analysts, and we are deliberately transversal: we work on the problems that cross organisational boundaries, because those are the ones nobody else can own.
