Based in Asturias and working within a global network, we collaborate with industrial operations, research centers and external partners to create the next generation of sustainable technologies for mining and steel.

Your role

We are looking to strengthen the team with a technically skilled professional who will support ArcelorMittal mining operations in the deployment of tailings monitoring and geotechnical risk management solutions, while contributing to applied R&D projects. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to:

  • Maintain a continuous technology watch on tailings monitoring, characterization and geotechnical assessment technologies, providing critical evaluation of the most suitable technical and economic solutions for different tailings facilities and operating conditions.
  • Support mining operations in the implementation of tailings monitoring and risk management strategies, acting as a reference for best practices related to tailings characterization, dam surveillance, instrumentation and data interpretation.
  • Define, coordinate and evaluate laboratory, field and industrial-scale testing programs required to validate monitoring technologies, characterization methodologies and predictive assessment tools for tailings storage facilities.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with site teams throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment between operational needs, corporate standards and R&D objectives, while supporting the selection and deployment of the most appropriate solutions.
  • Lead or contribute to applied research and innovation projects focused on tailings characterization, geotechnical monitoring, digitalization, data-driven risk assessment and the long-term safety and sustainability of tailings storage facilities

Your profile

  • You hold a Master's degree or PhD in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Geology or a related discipline
  • You have knowledge a proven track record in knowledge of tailings storage facilities (TSFs), geotechnical monitoring systems, instrumentation, geophysics and/or risk assessment methodologies.
  • You demonstrate a strong understanding and knowledge of tailings storage facilities (TSFs) and geotechnical risk assessment.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring systems.
  • Knowledge of geophysical investigation techniques applied to tailings and civil infrastructure.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse monitoring data to support operational decision making.
  • Knowledge of IT/Digital aspects with be valorated.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to interpret technical data and support evidence-based decision making.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills, enabling effective interaction with operational sites, technical experts and external partners.
  • Proactive, innovation-oriented mindset with the ability to challenge existing practices, identify opportunities and drive the implementation of new solutions.
  • Fluent in English is mandatory. Fluency in Spanish would be a plus, and willingness to learn it will be required.
  • You are able to work effectively in an international environment, including occasional travel to mining operations
