About the role

TECNALIA

Come on and join TECNALIA!! At TECNALIA we drive sustainable growth and tackle the greatest technological challenges of humanity, turning them into opportunities. We help society and businesses grow through technological innovation. We are committed to equality, diversity, and we promote the balance between personal and professional life. You will work in a highly qualified team, with excellent technology, in an international and multidisciplinary environment.

Job description

What you'll do

We are looking for an expert in the behavior of metallic materials in critical environments to lead R&D projects under demanding service conditions, especially in environments associated with the energy transition: hydrogen, CO₂, renewable fuels, Oil&Gas, offshore, energy storage and transportation.

Your goal will be to work on applied research projects focused on the evaluation, selection, modeling, and prediction of the in-service behavior of critical materials and components.

Your main responsibilities:

Technical Leadership: Manage R&D projects on material compatibility in aggressive environments.

Advanced Experimentation: Design and interpret critical tests (SSRT, fatigue, corrosion-fatigue, fracture toughness, SCC, autoclaves, high pressure).

Modeling and Data: Develop predictive models based on FEA and implement Python/MATLAB tools and Machine Learning for data analysis and prediction of the service life of materials and components in service.

Strategy and Business Development: Identify technological business opportunities and lead proposals for national, regional, and European calls (Horizon Europe, Hazitek, CDTI, etc.).

Transfer: Collaborate with international partners, universities, and companies in the industrial and naval sectors.

What we're looking for

Requirements

Education: PhD in Materials or Mechanical Engineering.

Experience: Proven track record in the preparation and management of national and European R&D projects, drafting deliverables, and technical communication with clients or partners.

Knowledge:

Solid knowledge of fracture mechanics, fatigue, structural integrity, hydrogen embrittlement, and corrosion in aggressive environments.

Knowledge of experimental techniques for the evaluation of metallic materials: metallographic preparation, microstructural characterization, fractography, and mechanical/environmental testing.

Tools: Proficiency in simulation software (Abaqus, ANSYS, COMSOL) and programming languages (Python/MATLAB).

Languages: Advanced English (C1), technical writing skills, and project defense.

Nice to have

We especially value:

International postdoctoral experience in leading research groups.

Knowledge of material design standards and guidelines (ASTM, ISO, NACE, ASME, API, DNV).

Ability to combine experimentation, physical modeling, and data analysis.

Scientific publications, conference participation, technical chapters, or relevant contributions in the field of materials, hydrogen, corrosion, fracture, fatigue, or modeling.

Laboratory experimental experience in the field of material compatibility with high-pressure gaseous hydrogen, autoclaves, electrochemical hydrogen charging systems, permeation, TDS, DCPD, CT, SENB, SPT, or other advanced techniques.

What you'll get

TECNALIA offers

Integration into a cutting-edge multidisciplinary team.

Leadership in disruptive energy transition projects.

An environment of high technological transfer and professional growth.
