The role
Company Description
INBRAIN Neuroelectronics is a neurotechnology company developing a new class of brain-computer interface therapies (BCI‑Tx), combining neural signal decoding with precise neuromodulation in a single platform. Using graphene‑based implants with high‑resolution sensing and stimulation, INBRAIN enables real‑time understanding and modulation of brain activity, supporting AI‑driven, adaptive, and personalized treatments for neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease and epilepsy.
Positioned at the intersection of medtech, deep tech, and digital health, INBRAIN aims to transform the treatment of neurological conditions by advancing precision neurology and scalable bioelectronic therapies.
Position
Role Description
This position is embedded within the MINIGRAPH EU‑funded innovation project and supports applied research, engineering development, and preclinical validation of next‑generation implantable neuromodulation technologies.
The selected candidate will actively contribute to technology development at the preclinical stage, participating in the design, prototyping, integration, verification, and experimental deployment of implantable hardware systems. The role enables learning‑by‑doing within an industrial innovation environment, while directly contributing to the advancement, robustness, and technological readiness of graphene‑based neuromodulation platforms intended for future clinical translation.
This position provides strong exposure to real-world challenges in hardware development for medical devices, bridging engineering design, experimental validation, and regulatory‑aware documentation practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Applied Prototyping and Engineering Development
- Actively contribute to the design and fabrication of functional prototypes (surgical tools, electrode holders, headstages) supporting preclinical experimentation.
- Apply rapid prototyping techniques (3D printing, laser cutting, silicone overmolding, basic machining) to iteratively improve system performance.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to translate experimental and surgical constraints into practical engineering solutions, supporting innovation cycles within the project.
2. System Verification, Testing, and Technical Validation
- Perform hardware verification activities to ensure electrical integrity, signal continuity, stimulation readiness, and mechanical robustness of implantable systems.
- Execute structured benchtop testing protocols to confirm safety, reliability, and consistency before experimental deployment.
- Contribute to technical documentation, including traceability records, testing logs, and failure analysis, supporting quality, reproducibility, and future regulatory alignment.
3. Preclinical Implementation and Experimental Support
- Support system integration and functional validation ("dry runs") of full hardware-software systems prior to preclinical experiments.
- Prepare implantable leads and electrodes (cleaning, impedance testing, inspection) according to experimental protocols.
- Provide on‑site technical support during selected preclinical campaigns, assisting with setup configuration, cable management, and real‑time troubleshooting.
Learning & Skills Development
Through participation in this role, the candidate will:
- Gain practical experience in EU‑funded industrial R&D projects
- Strengthen cross‑disciplinary competencies at the intersection of biomedical engineering, electronics, mechanics, and neuroscience
- Develop hands‑on expertise in preclinical medical device development, including experimental readiness and system reliability
- Contribute meaningfully to technology maturation and innovation pipelines for advanced neuromodulation therapies
