Production Trainee

The Production Manager manages all production operations within a plant across multiple shifts to ensure the profitable and timely manufacturing of quality products. He/she integrates production operations and processes across multiple shifts, with a focus on establishing short-term activities aimed at production continuity and balance, such as creating shift schedules and ensuring the requisition of materials and ingredients. The Production Manager coordinates the production environment of their plant at an operational level with other functional areas such as Supply Chain (Planning, Maintenance, Customer Service, Logistics, and Warehousing) to align activities and ensure support in achieving production, productivity, and quality.

As a managerial role, the focus is also on people management: selecting, organizing, training, and motivating production personnel (Shift Supervisors / Team Leaders, Operators) to ensure consistent compliance with production schedules with optimal levels of productivity and cost.

The level of the Production Manager role depends on the size and complexity of the production processes and the number of FTEs managed (direct and indirect). Depending on the size and structure of the organization, the Production Manager will supervise Shift Supervisors / Team Leaders, Operators, and sometimes administrative / support staff.

The Production Manager is ultimately responsible for the operational monitoring of the plant, maintaining operational control of the plant's human and technical teams at all times, correcting deviations, and taking the necessary actions to ensure safety, quality, service, and cost objectives.

• Quality / HSE Compliance

o Ensures that all activities and operations are executed in line with HSE / Quality rules, regulations, procedures, instructions, and guidelines, and promotes awareness of them, including addressing anomalies with others.

o Ensures compliance with safety rules and regulations to minimize industrial injuries and meet regulatory requirements.

• Production Planning and Execution

o Manages (operational) activities in the plant, within applicable Nutreco standards and procedures, to achieve efficient and effective execution and delivery of results.

o Coordinates production operations within a single plant that uses common equipment, methods, and production standards across multiple shifts.

o Directs unit supervisors in establishing and maintaining production schedules within established procedures and budgets.

• Leadership and People Management

o Provides leadership to their production area (i.e., by setting individual objectives, reviewing performance, and providing continuous feedback in an (in)formal manner) so that all reports are aware of what they must achieve and how they are performing in relation to their objectives.

o Manages and trains a team of operational personnel (Organizing work shifts), motivates employees through sincere and concrete feedback, and takes appropriate action when necessary, encourages team cooperation and mobility, and ensures that supervisors and staff are available (quantitatively and qualitatively) and willing and able to achieve established objectives.

• Reporting

o Develops and/or monitors relevant KPIs to maintain a view of production performance in the assigned area in relation to established objectives, and makes recommendations to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

o Monitors established performance indicators, including variance reports, production reports, quality reports, and injury reports.

o Keep the Plant Manager informed of the Plant's progress as well as deviations from established standards.

• Continuous Improvement

o Identifies and implements improvements in production systems, processes, and practices to improve / optimize process effectiveness and efficiency.
