What you'll do

  1. Analyze the needs of the electrical system operation and evaluate the state of the art in methodologies, models, and analytical algorithms, to identify opportunities for improvement in operation, programming, and planning processes.
  2. Design and code analytical methodologies, models, and algorithms for the electrical system operation, aimed at optimizing operational processes and supporting decision-making.
  3. Provide the service of forecasting demand and renewable generation (wind and solar), as well as other relevant magnitudes, for the different time horizons of the system operation.
  4. Design and code optimization analytical methodologies, models, and algorithms to support operational processes such as demand coverage and new services (voltage control, firm capacity market...).
  5. Design and code analytical methodologies, models, and algorithms for the analysis of grid scenarios and electrical system generation, enabling the evaluation of future situations and supporting planning, programming, and monitoring of operations, particularly those related to European and regional coordination.
  6. Coordinate with the Information Technology Directorate (DTI) the implementation and evolution of the developed analytical methodologies, models, and algorithms, ensuring their correct integration into corporate systems.
  7. Monitor the quality, reliability, and suitability of analytical methodologies, models, and algorithms, proposing improvement actions when necessary.
  8. Participate in the functional resolution of incidents associated with analytical methodologies, models, and algorithms in operation, in coordination with DTI, to ensure the continuity of service to operations.
  9. Maintain the technical documentation of the developed analytical methodologies, models, and algorithms, facilitating their traceability, maintenance, and evolution.

We are looking for a Technician for System Operation Models to join the team at the Dp. Models for the Operation of the Electrical Grid.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or other similar technical qualifications. A Master's degree is valued.
  • 3-5 years of experience in developing algorithms, models, and tools for electrical system operation, programming, and/or planning studies.
  • Expert knowledge in the use of electrical simulation tools, particularly PSS®E (others valued: PowerFactory).
  • Valuable: knowledge and experience in mathematical optimization: linear/non-linear programming, heuristics, etc.
  • Advanced level of English (minimum B2, recommended C1).

Experience and knowledge in the following areas:

Knowledge of electrical systems

  • Knowledge of the operation of the electrical system (operation, planning, and markets), as well as grid and generation models of the Spanish electrical system.
  • Knowledge of information exchange and modeling standards in electrical systems (CIM/CGMES) and their application in grid models.
  • Experience in handling, validating, and exploiting large-scale grid models.

Programming and data

  • Advanced programming knowledge (Python, C++, R, SQL) and experience in Windows and Unix/Linux environments.
  • Knowledge of Business Intelligence tools (especially Power BI) for data analysis and visualization aimed at decision-making.
  • Knowledge of designing automated data processing workflows (pipelines), including ingestion, cleaning, transformation, and preparation of information for use in models and studies of the electrical system. Experience in efficiently processing large volumes of data (time series, scenarios) using tools such as pandas, NumPy, or others.
  • Knowledge of structured databases and the SQL language.
  • Valuable: experience in cloud environments (AWS).

Machine Learning / AI

  • Valuable: knowledge in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence techniques, including: Supervised and unsupervised models applied to time series, prediction, or classification. Evaluation, validation, and maintenance of models.
  • Valuable: experience in applying ML to the energy sector (demand, renewable generation, scenarios, optimization, etc.).

Software management and quality

  • Experience in software development best practices: Version control (Git). Model testing and validation. Technical documentation.
