What we're looking for

  • Qualification: Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related fields to the thermal spray technologies field. Possession of a PhD will be highly valued.

  • Minimum experience: We are looking for a person with proven knowledge and experience of at least 5 years in the management of R&D+i projects in the field of surface technologies. Experience in the field of thermal spray technologies, as well as in the direction of research teams, will be highly valued.
  • Technological knowledge of materials and surface engineering applied to high added-value coatings for applications in extreme conditions (hard metal, cermets, carbides, ceramics, slurry coatings, thermal/environmental barriers, etc.).
  • Knowledge in the use of metallographic characterization techniques, electron microscopy, fault detection through non-destructive techniques, and knowledge in mechanical-structural characterization of materials.
  • Knowledge of surface engineering problems and solutions associated with resistance to corrosion, wear, and extreme temperature conditions.

At TECNALIA, we want to boost the Manufacturing Processes and Materials Business Area by incorporating a Project Manager in thermal spray technologies.

The thermal spray technologies group, part of the Manufacturing Processes and Materials business area of the Industry and Mobility Unit at TECNALIA, has more than 30 years of experience in this technological field.

It is dedicated to the development of coatings and surface engineering using the most advanced spraying techniques (High velocity, detonation, plasma, suspensions) to propose competitive and sustainable solutions in applications with extreme service conditions and high added value in the following sectors: aeronautics, transport, energy, health, and metal transformation. The group is a national and international benchmark in these technologies, located at the TECNALIA facilities in San Sebastián and Irún.

What you'll do

The selected person will integrate into this research group to develop coating solutions that solve problems within the industrial ecosystem. They will have the opportunity to work in a team with great projection in a multicultural, dynamic, and enriching work environment. They will perform the role of Project Manager, which includes the following functions:

  • Direction, monitoring, and execution of research, development, and innovation projects with companies and national and international public funding projects.
  • Preparation of public funding project proposals (at national and European levels) for the deployment of the strategy.
  • Preparation of R&D+i project proposals for industry.
  • Development and fine-tuning of tests for the characterization of coatings under representative use conditions (temperature and wear).
  • Direction and participation in the writing of scientific publications and at national and international reference conferences.
  • Contribution to the execution and fulfillment of the economic and scientific-technological objectives of the Business Area Management Plan.
