About the role

ArcelorMittal is seeking a Metallurgical Engineer for its facilities in Asturias to lead and optimize the metallurgical processes associated with steel manufacturing and transformation, ensuring product quality, process stability, personnel safety, and continuous improvement. The role will involve analyzing, developing, and implementing technical solutions to enhance production performance, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with customer specifications.

What you'll do

  • Analyze and optimize the metallurgical processes of steel manufacturing and product transformation.
  • Monitor and supervise process parameters to guarantee metallurgical quality and compliance with technical specifications.
  • Investigate and resolve quality issues related to chemical composition, mechanical properties, microstructure, or manufacturing defects.
  • Perform root cause analysis and drive corrective and preventive actions.
  • Define, document, and update operating standards, process procedures, and best practices.
  • Evaluate and optimize the different calculation models related to steel manufacturing implemented at the level 2 automation.
  • Participate in continuous improvement, digitalization, and technological innovation projects.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering departments to improve the reliability and performance of the facilities.
  • Develop and analyze process and quality indicators (KPIs), identifying deviations and opportunities for optimization.
  • Evaluate raw materials, consumables, refractories, and new technologies related to metallurgical processes.
  • Promote compliance with applicable safety, quality, and environmental regulations.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in steelmaking or metallurgical environments: steel shop, secondary metallurgy, continuous casting, foundry, rolling, or heat treatment.
  • English: B2 level or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and office software. Experience with process information systems and KPI visualization will be valued (PowerBI, Python, AI tools, etc.).
  • Knowledge:
    • Physical metallurgy and steel metallurgy.
    • Materials science and engineering.
    • Steel shop, secondary metallurgy, continuous casting, and rolling processes.
    • Heat treatments, microstructure, and materials characterization.
    • Statistical process control and industrial data analysis.
    • Problem-solving and continuous improvement tools: root cause analysis, Lean, or equivalent methodologies.
