Engineering Manager – Delivery, Incidents and Service Ownership - backend/API First

BETWEEN Group is a multinational consultancy with advanced technological capabilities in Engineering and ICT. Currently, BETWEEN has a team of 1000 professionals in the automotive, railway, retail, and other industries.

We are expanding our team and are looking for an Engineering Manager with extensive experience in a similar role, for a stable and permanent project, within one of the technology teams that Between has deployed at one of our key clients.

Mission: as a hands-on EM, you will be responsible for stabilizing delivery, ensuring execution, and managing incidents and dependencies, as well as solving complex technical problems; generating a direct impact on the product and the business.

• API as a product: here, the deliverable is the API itself (a platform without a front end), including contract design, versioning, and consumer management. 
• JVM backend microservices platform

Execution and delivery:

• Ensure predictable, stable, and high-quality delivery.
• Optimize processes (planning, incident management, prioritization).
• Reduce variability: interruptions, priority changes, and rework.
• Technical challenge: lead experienced technical teams with a strong technical mindset, going beyond just process improvement.

Team management:

• Lead teams in complex environments with a data-driven approach.
• Define clear ownership and improve team efficiency.
• You will work with metrics:
• Quantitative: velocity, throughput, predictability, DORA metrics.
• Qualitative: team dynamics, friction points, and blockers.

Work environment and team stability:

• Ensure a stable, sustainable, and productive work environment.
• Detect and reduce attrition, friction, and turnover.

Organization and scalability:

• Evolve the operating model after team consolidation.
• Ownership over critical systems and services (24/7).
• Reduce dependencies and organizational complexity.

Operations and incidents:

• Implement an efficient incident management model (intake, triage).
• Reduce operational noise and improve escalation and resolution.

Collaboration with Product, Technology, and Business:

• Collaborate closely with Product on the roadmap and prioritization.
• Align stakeholders and translate business needs into executable plans.
• Collaborate with Tech Leads on technical matters that support the evolution of the system and the team (PRs, incidents, technical challenges).
• Maintain focus on the real product impact.

AI and SDD (Spec Driven Development):

• Use and promote AI to improve efficiency (analysis, documentation, development).
• Promote Spec Driven Development (SDD) practices.
• Identify opportunities to reduce friction and accelerate delivery.
